When I take a photo with the M9, only half of the image is covered. The other half is black. Is this the shutter curtain?
Should I mail the camera to Leica?
Is this a costly repair?
Does Leica help out?

Thanks.

Oh Dear, hope it turns out alright for You Raid....

I have been considering an M9 but 'Leica & Digital cam's' make me nervous
To make the $$ Investment....

Ahh. Why does it seem it is always the shutters with a Leica?

My first guess would be shutter capping.

Good Luck Raid.

Left half, right half, top half, bottom half, exactly half, crisp margin....and only on the LCD or with an imported image? dng or jpeg or both?

If it is left and right half ( which I suspect) it means that one of the two readout electronics on the motherboard has failed. Send it in for a sensor replacement.
If it is going to take long, sensors are made in batches, ask for a loaner.
Leica usually helps out in cases like this.

It is as Jaap has said. The right half of the images is black. It is strange that I had this problem immediately after I changed the memory card yesterday. I will try out using a fully charged battery. No, I did not drop the camera.

Try taking the battery out. Put it back in.

Help?

By chance did you format your card before using it? After unloading files to external hard drive, I put the card into the camera and format.

Had similar problem with a different mfgr (Canon 20D). As I recall I cleaned the contacts on the lens & camera body and that helped.

Hope you get your camera up and running.

I have tried removing the battery. It did not help.

I recall that I first inserted a faulty memory card that cannot be formatted, followed by inserting a card that worked. Maybe the faulty card triggered something.

Same thing on all shutter speeds, even Bulb? If you fire the shutter with no lens on it, does the shutter look like it's sticking?

Odd coincidence that it's when you changed cards, I'd try another card.

Good luck Raid, hope your m9 comes back for good!

In the past i had something like that, the memory card was faulty...perhpas your new card is too fast remember m9´s need a slow card and the newer faster ones my produce some error or donñt work at all.

:)

Darn luck, Raid... and this is still in the middle of your trip. Are you in Germany now? Even if you're in the Eastern side, you should be able to send it to Leica and then have it sent home in FL when they're done. And they should be able to give you a loaner too...

I hope. Sending you good vibes...
