Hey, I am still purchase free. I am trying to buy something, but it just isn't working, so I am on the no equipment purchases in March list.

One of my favourite Nikkors. I (foolishly) sold the first one I had and picked up another about 2 years ago.Honu-Hugger said:A very early 55/3.5 Micro-Nikkor "P" lens
😀 I did the same, Peter. Someone on this forum posted a shot taken with one recently and it reminded me that I wish I'd never sold mine. I also forgot that I still have a Nikkormat FT3 that I can also use this lens on (perhaps a symptom of too many cameras, or just a bad memory...). I got rid of most of my Nikkor lenses but kept the 45/2.8 GN, 58/1.2 NOCT, and the 50~300 EDIF; this Micro will be a nice addition.peterc said:One of my favourite Nikkors. P is the early pre-AI version. The lens will say Micro-NIKKOR-P Auto around the front lens element. I believe there was an earlier non-auto version as well.FrankS said:I've got a micro Nikkor 55 f3.5, but there is no P designation. Is it a later/earlier version?
There have been a few versions. The early "P" lenses were optimized for 1:10 magnification and used an earlier coating process. Later, as Nikon realized that many were being used as "normal" lenses they changed the lens to "P-C", gave it a multi-coating and better distant focus rendition at the expense of its true purpose (macro). I like the early lenses.FrankS said:I thought you guys were talking about a RF lens. I've got a micro Nikkor 55 f3.5, but there is no P designation. Is it a later/earlier version?
