March Challenge: Photo and no equipment buying

Hey, I am still purchase free. I am trying to buy something, but it just isn't working, so I am on the no equipment purchases in March list.

happy birthday Raid, and enojy that canon🙂

Thank you, Ferdinand. I will continue tomorrow my birthday celebrations by taking my daughters the beach (my cover-up story) and I will take photos with a Zorki-4 plus Canon 35mm/1.8, and a Canon P with a Canon 50mm/1.2 and a Fuji Natura with a 24mm/1.9. A 90mm Elmarit is also thrown into the mix of goodies.

I feel like Kramer (from "Seinfeld")...I'm out of the abstinence contest and couldn't be happier. A very early 55/3.5 Micro-Nikkor "P" lens is on it's way and I have an Alpa/Nikkor adapter 😀.

Hi "Kramer",
You will love the 55mm/3.5 Micro lens. I have one, and I used to use it often for tack-sharp photos. Enjoy ... (even though it is MARCH).

No fair! Catholics can be absolved of their sins. Buddhists pay for them in the end.

Frank: It doesn't stop there; then reincarnation will occur in the shape of ... a Holga camera?

One of my favourite Nikkors. I (foolishly) sold the first one I had and picked up another about 2 years ago.

😀 I did the same, Peter. Someone on this forum posted a shot taken with one recently and it reminded me that I wish I'd never sold mine. I also forgot that I still have a Nikkormat FT3 that I can also use this lens on (perhaps a symptom of too many cameras, or just a bad memory...). I got rid of most of my Nikkor lenses but kept the 45/2.8 GN, 58/1.2 NOCT, and the 50~300 EDIF; this Micro will be a nice addition.

I thought you guys were talking about a RF lens. I've got a micro Nikkor 55 f3.5, but there is no P designation. Is it a later/earlier version?

P is the early pre-AI version. The lens will say Micro-NIKKOR-P Auto around the front lens element. I believe there was an earlier non-auto version as well.

There have been a few versions. The early "P" lenses were optimized for 1:10 magnification and used an earlier coating process. Later, as Nikon realized that many were being used as "normal" lenses they changed the lens to "P-C", gave it a multi-coating and better distant focus rendition at the expense of its true purpose (macro). I like the early lenses.

I was going to state a similar posting, but you beat me to it. What you said above is correct. The P was optimized for close-up only, whereas later micro lenses were also near optimal for distant objects. I have the P version of this great lens. The later 55mm came in 2.8 max apertures.
