8 days ~ no GAS

I am proud of you, Reagan. I wish I were that strong.

Mom found the old XA we had as kids. I popped a battery in it and it fired up. Shot a roll, haven't developed that one. left it at home so I shot some c-41 and WOW this is sharp. I didn't BUY anything though. But I still got a new toy to play with. She's gonna be sick when she sees how sharp these are. I think the reason they quit using it was something embarassingly like some important pictures being out of focus. (I'm thinking someone didn't know how to line up the little rangefinder patch. The someone may have even been myself, but hey - I was like 15.)

Strong? LOL!! Yeah, right. I'm a total whimpering, sniveling shell of a man basket-case!!! I chewed all my fingernails and toenails off to the first knuckle. My wife told me I was crying in my sleep the other night and mumbling something about "I miss my PayPal! When will he come home?" This has got to be the longest March in the history of Marches! Two things that are helping... (1) I'm flat-busted broke... broker than the brokest... I'm the Wimperor of Brokendom. And (2) April 15th will soon be here.

Think of a big tax refund! Then you can really have some Paypal fun and make ebay richer. I wonder if my thread has had any impact on people's buying practices or not. Maybe not. :bang:

I AM STILL IN!!!!! 😀

Ok, I need a clarification.

What if, lets say a guy agrees to send another guy, this is hypothetical of course, a camera to look over and decide if he is interested in buying it. I mean, technically no sale has taken place yet right? Well, the price is good I think, I mean he thinks, and he is interested in the item, but really hasn't paid for it or anything. He can always send it back, no harm no foul right?

He would still be purchase free for the month right?

 Rover, is that really "hypothetical"?

Yesterday night I found a nice bulk film loader (I didn´t have one), the simplest model ever made, no counter, no remaining film indicator... just a light tight black box with a handle ... and I bought it. 🙄

Meanwhile I´ve been shooting also... 😉 and giving the final touches to a closet wet darkroom. 😉
Does the loader count as "gear"?

Honestly, though I haven't purchased anything - not even film (I've got a ton), in my house I define my GAS problem as simply MORE cameras and MORE lenses of which I already have ample supply. My March Challenge here is to not make the "pile of Zorkis" grow any more and just focus on using what I got for a month.

A new film loader, lens hood, case or something isn't really where I have temptations with GAS. And I know some will say, "Gear is gear", but this is MY Challenge to Me. So rover, having someone else's camera in your hands isn't really an "acquisition" IMO any more than holding a camera at a photo shop. Ernesto's film loader wouldn't be a GAS item to me either unless I had 8 other film loaders on the shelf.

Thanks for the encourgement, guys!! Hangin' in...!

Beware the ides of March!

Julius Ceasar did not listen, and look what happened to this poor little fellow!
I cannot believe it that we have over 2000 views of this thread.
Maybe it struck a nerve ... a buying nerve?

I think that any tempering of buying equipment for no obvious reasons cannot hurt. Everybody needs once in a while film and so on, and this thread was not meant to address such buying activities. Occasional "super bargains" that are "impossible to ignore" may also be excluded by some for many.

More that it's an RFF soap opera. Suspense... who will break down and BUY! Confession.. who will admit to it! Disbelief... did Rover really think he could get away with it? Ya gotta stay tuned in to watch the drama unfold.

Ah ... temptation. When I was in the photo store on Friday, the owner handed me a Nikkor-H, 2.8cm f/3.5 chrome barrel. This lens is in beautiful condition and from the serial number was probably from the first or second year of production (1960-61). This is one of the lenses that made Nikon. Extremely flat field and highly corrected.
"Take it with you," he says, "try it out. Pay me later if you like it."
So ... it's taking a test drive on my FE.
Aaarghhhh!!!

Thanks' Raid, since I can't buy camera gear this month I'm shopping for a vintage motorcycle. My wifes no help she thinks it's funny. :>

Gene: I hope that I have not introduced a "Reality TV" type thread. I don't like reality TV because it takes people away from important things in life! Oh well ... maybe the more serious people here will forgive me.
