Finally got my hands on a Perar. Been wanting to try it out since seeing it online.

I see it has a small filter thread - unknown size - over the glass, a small hood that threads on the outside of the front barrel, AND an internal filter thread in the hood! That's a lot of potential connections for filters.

I am wondering what others who have this lens are doing for filters? Any at all? Press-fit? On one of my large format lenses it has a similar outside thread and I glued two step-up rings back-to-back to make a larger filter for the front. I want whatever I get to not significantly increase the size of the lens.

I shot some test film today, waiting on scans. Used the hood with it. I wonder if it flares badly w/o the hood? Will have to test that on my M9 tomorrow.

Feel free to share experiences and images from your Perar. I think there's a few users here??

A friend of mine has one and I'm pretty sure it's a 19mm filter thread.
I know Heliopan makes them because I have several for my Elmar's, unfortunately they're not all that cheap.

I have one and use it frequently. I love it for its very small size.

As for filters, I haven't tried any so can't help in that regards. I am fairly sure you could find an adapter to change the filter thread size to something more practical but I don't know how you would do that without affecting the size.

Flare is not an issue for me with the hood in place. Since it is so tiny I haven't used the lens without the hood. Not sure why I would unless, as you indicate, you were trying to install some filter adapters in place of the hood.

I do think that if you are insistent that you need to use filters then another lens may be better suited to this. The Voigtlander Color Skopar 35 is a bit faster and not a whole lot larger. If I'm not mistaken it uses a 39mm filter which is a lot easier to find.

Thanks guys. I found on the JCH website a reference to 19mm filters as well. I was hoping for just a simple yellow filter for b&w shooting. Not really any step-up rings available from that size that I can see.

Well, I'll have to fiddle with it. Might have something I can modify or make into a "press-fit" solution.

One from my test roll, on TMX - an abstraction of forms from rock and ice:

Very nicely seen Corran.

Thanks Pioneer.

Thanks for the tip on the Kenko filters, I had forgotten about those. Some years ago I looked for those for my Elmar, but ended up getting something else. I don't see any reasonably-priced ones on eBay at the moment but I'll keep my eyes out. Found some Walz ones for way too much but shot them a lower offer, maybe I'll get lucky.
