Picked up an OM-1 couple of weeks ago. Never was into photography, digital or film. Here are the things that I love about photography so far.

1. That great feeling when you think you just took a great shot
2. Thinking about your shots after you've taken them
3. Waiting for film to get developed. This is like a gift you get every week and you can't wait to see what it is.
4. Finding a great shot that you did not think would turn out well.
5. Opportunity to get out of the office or apartment and just walk.
6. Get to talk to strangers. I've talked to more strangers last week than the entire last year.

Here are some of the shots I've taken last week.
NYC Sanitation Department was cleaning snow everywhere except where people actually walked....

If brookly bridge was a guy, it would probably look like this guy

Cleaning up snow where no one is walking because there is a huge area under FDR free of snow.

Chinatown
Nothing goes to waste in Chinatown and I think that's great.

Well said: that's one of the reasons why I'm still stuck on film!!!

Nice pictures, a very promising start,
ciao

Nice photos, especially the B&W... ahhh, I miss NYC. Haven't been back in many moons, since I moved to the left coast.

Also, nice photo of your fiancee... About fiancees: they're very tolerant of hobbies (and assocated expenses) until they become wives.

So my advice: accumulate as much gear as possible while you still can. :D

Wow--that's amazing--and you have a great "eye"--keep it up and thanks for posting.

Hi. Thanks. I've taken pictures during vacation, parties, etc with a point and shoot camera but this is first time that I actually bought a camera and went out to take some photos.

great start

great start

great start!!

i think you have a terrific outlook about photography. i hope you continue along the same path you have begun. practice, practice, practice...

thank you for sharing your first outing...i like just about all of your people on the street images. it's nice to see color in the midst of the frozen world there...and that is a sweet portrait of your fiance/

breathe, relax and enjoy.

You're right. Photography affects perception and has been an enlightening experience with almost every capture.

Your initial post about what you like about photography with a real camera is simply spot-on. So much for digital instant gratification. It's the waiting, the anticipation, and as you put it, "It's like a gift you get every week, and you can't wait to see what it is."

Also, I might add that I've taught photography at the college level for years, and if you were a student of mine I'd say "Just keep on doing what you're doing."

I wouldn't dare muddy the waters with advice.
