My ISO dial just fell off! A little angry.....

Well I'd like to see a film box holder where that ISO dial is and the ISO & compensation controls with the film rewind mechanism like on many other cameras. It seems indisputable that Leica "quality" is not what it used to be. Last year I bought a rigid Summicron and DAG CLA'd it and when it came back I marvelled at it's handling and feel (am I turning into a fondler? 😱). In contrast I bought four new ASPH lenses during the year and only one was perfect.

agree, a fim box holder would be ideal.
this ISO dial baffles me to no end, it's not an easy to do adjustment...baffling
 
Fix or repair daily does own Jaguar.

A friend had one and he bragged every piece that fell off was the highest English quality.

I think he is driving something put out by Morris Garage now.

I standing still with my like new M6`s and older goodies. If the zink top s start to go, the camera will go too.

Foam! You got to be kidding. Darn the cost accountants.
 
Does two failed spots of glue reeeeely merit the replacement of the entire camera?
Maybe if the shop has another mp in stock, swap the backs so the shop can warranty exchange the backs.. Or just have them fix it while you wait..
Save camera exchanges for prisms coming apart or gears breaking, I know it's an expensive camera, and should hot have things come unglued, but the expense of the Leica is the involvement of humans in their manufacture, and humans both get things built better, and make mistakes. Sending the body back to Germany will likely just result in an earlier demise for Leica, or drive the prices up.
Many people think it's good luck for a new machine to have one 'glitch' early in it's life- drives out evil spirits.🙂
 
Agree about old vs. new(er) feeling. Currently, I own two Leica things: a 1957 DS M3 and a 1981 (c.) Summicron 50. The difference in mecanical quality is huge: what happened between 1957 and 1981?! Even my Soviet Jupiter 3 (1957) and Jupiter 8 (1976) lenses seems to have a better mechanical feel than the early-80s Summicron.

In 1957, being skilled with one's hands was a thing to be proud of.
For some reason, later everyone was required to go to college, and any job that involved any tools other than those used by a dentist or doctor or lawyer were frowned upon as blue collar. Thus nobody now knows which end of a screwdriver is the handle. Or how to use glue.

Perhaps there is some advantage to cleaning the camera, gathering all the packing, paperwork etc.. driving to the dealer and demanding he exchange cameras, vs gluing the plastic bit or having it glued back on. It may teach Leica a lesson, or the dealer.
I'd think the dealer would want to do whatever he could to satisfy.

I just got back from the shop. My salesman was very understanding of my situation and replaced the camera with no hassles; even though the store would take a loss because they would have to sell the old one second-hand. My new camera is even smoother in operation then the last one. The serial number is even more to my liking (they add up to my lucky number). I'm a very happy customer indeed 🙂

Well... it seems that in the long run the store prefers to keep you as a customer (after all, who else will plunk down three grand for a brand new Leica but you?). And, of course, they did what any other reputable store would do: keep you happy.

Why? There's such a thing as factory warranty. If he isn't selling the camera second-hand in the first place, he can send this one back to Leica and will only lose shipping costs. Unless the USA is a much stranger place than it seems sales-wise.

The only problem I've had with my MP is due to the ISO dial rotating without intention.

I tape it in place to avoid any possibility of ruining a wedding shoot.

Are others loose, or is this unusual ?

Mine actually stays in place. It's a little difficult to turn actually. As Magus stated, the indices do not 'match up' exactally, and the plastic just kills me. I will have it replaced with the next cla.

Congratulation!!!

I checked out BandoCamera website and it seems their prices are competitive contrary to another post (Different Section) from a fellow registered user claiming that the Leica prices in Korea is twice as expensive as in the US. I can't read Korean and I wonder if they can ship overseas. Hope they do.
