My new Leica M6 0.85 with Summicron 50mm!

I recently sold a handmade boutique guitar to a gentleman in Oregon thru another forum and documented/timestamped
my packaging and took a pic of the shipping receipt. I emailed everything over to the buyer. This is my standard practice.

I won't ever take any chances especially with that kind of money and it facilitates settling claims.
Of course, we talked about a dozen times before finalizing the transaction. Sent it fedex btw.

Ebay is changing and exactly for this reason. I have purchased most of my Leica M equipment on eBay including two M7's and Motor M's along with a Leicavit. I explain to the seller before hand how the shipment has to be made, USPS Priority Mail, insured and Delivery Confirmation to my PO Box. If the seller objects to any part than its no deal. I believe Ebay is now requiring insurance to do away with the Seller avoiding any responsibility. Its the Buyers responsibility to assure himself/herself that all the questions are answered correctly about the merchandise. I have sold one 35mm f2.0 RF lens on eBay and shipped a i stated. the actual buyer was in Asia and I would not ship to him there but to his US address.eBay can be a great place to acquire something but you must always follow the Roman's, 'Caveat Emptor' , do you home work and insist on having the sale meet your expectations.-Dick

Sad to hear stories like yours, but I'll eat my elmarit if this isn't a scam.

1. Suspiciously low price. Even if the cron were to be ugly, it's worth would still be at least 250-350€, unless it were hazed & fungussed all over. And even a normal .72 M6 at 750-850€ is dead cheap. Members use to rave about reliability of RFF ads, but prices are usually on the high side.

2. There is of course a remote posibility that mala fide Italian post officers have a bunch of unused mains wires lying around to make for the box weight. Or that one took the box home with him.

3. But what convinces me most that you've been bugged, is the sellers offer to buy you another M... Why the hell would he do that for if it weren't for gaining time? I understand you're giving him the benefit of doubt, but if I were the seller, I'd definitely not lose 800 or 1000€ just for the sake of my RFF reputation. If he were honest (and even then there'd be room enough for cheating...) he'd have proposed to share the loss between the two of you.

Don't get me wrong, I really apreciate your gentleman's attitude, but for the sake of your fellow buyers on RFF, I think you should at least advise the mods or admins. He'd cook up another avatar for his next job, but at least without a high number of posts, potential buyers would be cautious.
Also, being a non native speaker myself, perhaps he'd be recognisable for his way of writing English.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but...GET that M sooner or later...

Best of luck

Thank you.
Well, I do have the serial number of the original M6. He has now shipped an other M6. This should have a different serial number.
IF this package include a M6 Im likely to belive the seller isnt the scammer. But of course you never know.
I will ask the seller if it is ok with him to post the serial number of the M6 and the lens here in this tread. Somewhere, one shiny day the item will show up.

This is really bad, sorry you have to go through this. I have nearly 300 positive feedbacks on ebay because I am a shrewd buyer and faultless seller. If a buyer does not want to pay for my shipping terms, insurance and tracking mandatory, there is no sale.

I would have just got my money back. Did you at least let the mods and admin know? They really should know, the RFF ads are highly regarded and hopefully always will be.

Hmmm, I see that I perhaps have a responsibillity for blowing the whistle when a scam occure. But in this particulary case I dont know. It might very well be the Italian postal service wich are to blame.
I belive the mods and admins reads a lot of treads, including this one.

Hurrah! A staggering light used M6 0.85 was delivered at the door few days ago. The seller wasnt the thief after all. Hurrah! ... But wait just a little second - the serial number... The seller had sendt me pictures of the original M6 (the one that was lost in the mail) - and the serial number is showing up at one of the pics.
I had too check - but offcourse the serial numbers had to be different. Or..
Well - judge for yourself:

The pictured Leica M6 - (dissaperad from the postal service: 2424964
My camera, safely receiced few days ago......................... 2424964

Hmmm, the for sure LOOK pretty much alike to me.

This seems to be a pretty clear case. Is this Italian the stupidest scammer ever? He sends me pictures of his M6, the seral number visible. He packs a empty package, and claimes it contends the M6 and a black Summicron 50mm. The box is empty, and he claims that the Italian postal service has opened the package and stolen the M6 and Summicron. I then tell him that I will personally take a plain and beat the **** out of him. He then (very fast) tell me that he can buy "an other" M6 and send me. I say that he can rather send me my money back - but (for reasons we do know now) he say that the M6 he is going to buy, he wil pay over several mounths. He has also already make the deal. And he sends the M6 (because he reallized that I actually IS capable of taking a plain just to beat him up) AND the M6 he sends is exactly the same M6 the supposably had been stolen by the postal service.
It sould be a crime to be as stupid as this.
Well - sum summarum: Ive now got my M6 - it seems like it is in a good state. But Im kinda short of a Summicron 50mm. Not to mention all the time and effort this has cost me.
Ive sent a email to the stupid scammer, giving him a chance to make things right. But offcourse - this is a cery clear case of a scam, and I cant avoid taking steps towards him.
What could be a proper reaction?

This guy should be laughed and ashamed in the real world AND the world of scammers alike.

I hope you'll find a resolution for the Summicron part one way or another...

He was a member here no?
Not that he'll keep the same profile if he sticks around, but what's his name?

good that OP eventually got most of original value secured. not to downplay the attempted scam of course.

There are many members here from Italy. Perhaps one of them can offer to pay a visit?
I'd certainly make that offer if a clearcut scam originated in my area. This one, at face value, looks like a scam.

Hi IS a member yes. I have done a search on his nick and another tread come up, wich was about the same person selling an item, wich the buyer had payed for in advance - but the buyer didnt get his item. It seems that it finally was sorted out.
My case is a clear cut peece of scamming - not other explanation is possible. The man is a thief. Anyway, Ive sent him a email, giving him one last chance of making up for his fraud. I will offcourse not accept any less than a Summicron 50mm in very very good condition. Pluss some money refound. I have got my M6 and I will perhaps not take the plain to Italy just to beat the living hell out of him. But this summer or the next, me and some friends, will have a motorcycle holiday - driving trough Italy. It will then be very very difficoult not to make this criminal a little visit. I will be worth the hole trip. I hate scammers, they is undermining the trust wich is very important for us who want to buy used cameras from all over the world.

It sucks that you got ripped off. But making threats on the Internet is very bad idea. And the whole idea of getting someone else to pay the person a visit is not much better. Where are the moderators? Sort it through legal channels and keep this forum positive. I come here to learn stuff, see other people's pictures and post some images. I don't come here to be exposed to your whining about getting ripped off when getting the package insured and mailing it through a company like FEDEX or UPS would have protected both parties.

I`m sorry but you are wrong. Legal channels? And what might those be? If you are here to learn stuff, you might actually find this tread very usefull.

What am I wrong about? Your whining, making threats on this forum, getting the package insured. Using FEDEX or UPS? I can't wait for you to learn me .
