ND filters

Any recommendations? I usually use BW filters but have been pondering some of the variable ones for my Xpro1. How well are you able to focus while using the OVF with an nd?

The OVF doesn't care. The lens is not directly involved in the OVF display. I expect the EVF would be fine too.

The sensor is very close to the lens rear element. Sometimes people see strange reflections with filters that never caused problems with other cameras. Filters that use high-quality coatings are a good idea.

I've found the variable ones to leave a purple cast in most situations, though haven't tried them on a Fuji. Not recommended. It would probably be better to stack B+W filters.

The better quality Hoyas are good and have a thinner mount ring.
