Need info on Fuji TX-1

Hi folks,

I have been looking at the Hassie xpan1-2 and the Fuji TX-1-2 and think I would like to acquire the Fuji TX-1. I say 'think' because there are some variables that I need to understand.

-Since I am an American, is there a problem with servicing the TX-1 that is normally sold only in Japan?

-Is there a problem servicing these panos , period?

-The TX-1 was the first model and like any product, they had to work thru initial problems. If I use the serial # as a guide, I may be able to determine if a TX-1 being offered for sale is one of the last to be produced. How can I find out what that # is likely to be?

-Is a camera that is in excellent condition after servicing more valuable than a camera that has been unused and sitting in the closet?

I prefer the TX-1 over the xpan-1, because I like the chrome finish and the 'improvements' in version II don't add up to the extra expense to me.

Hi, I have had a TX1 since 1998, and never a problem. From minus 20 in Moscow to banging around in the car for days, it's always been perfect. Fantastic lens too, sharpest I've seen.

I have an original x-pan which has always worked perfectly. It is a good solid camera robustly made. The black finish will scratch, so I can appreciate your interest in the chrome version Fuji TX-1. All x-pans were made by Fuji and badged Hassleblad, so we are talking about substantially the same camera here. At the moment Hassleblad Europe seems to be offering service facilities, but these cameras are out of production and contain the usual complex electronics. I'd want to be assured that the camera was working properly before I bought one. If working, then I see no reason why it shouldn't continue for many years. It's a great camera to use. Checking to see if service is available for these cameras in the States would be a good idea too. There is a method of finding out how many shutter depressions have occurred.

My XPan 1 does not display the 45mm framelines. In answer to your question about obtaining repairs for a TX-1, take a look at my thread on XPan viewfinder accuracy. Look at the part where I quote a conversation I just had with Fuji USA. They acted like they never heard of an XPan or a TX-1! They referred me to someplace in Florida for Fuji film camera repairs.

Why don't you call KEH.com to see if they repair the TX-1? They have a good repair service.
