Hi there,

Ok, here the deal. I'm going to scotland in February with some of my best friends. We'll go see Scotland-France (Rugby) but mostly will hit the pub all day and night long. I'd like to bring a small camera to document our adventures but I don't want to bring any of my leica. They're just too big and you never know in what kind of state I'll end up 🙄 .. So I need a very small rig but with a very fast lens (f/2 max ...). I was thinking of the Olympus XA but unfortunately, I can't use it manually which mean I'm stuck at ISO800 and the lens is only f/2.8 ... I have a sweet Canonet (you know, the blue one 🙄 ) but I'm feeling it's a tad big to carry it with me during the day and night ...

What would you guys recommend ? Anything other than the XA ?

I am soooooo jealous!!! ALLEZ LES BLEUS!!!!

From my limited knowledge, it seems that the xa is best for you right now...though I'd take the cannonet in a small shoulder bag.

They are a little bigger than an XA , but the Yashica rangefinders have a great 40mm 1.7 lens. Yashica 5000e for example.
The Yashica lynx 14e has a 1.4 lens.

The Lynx 14 is fairly big, uses a 58mm filter.

The Revue already mentioned or Minolta Hi-Matic 7s-II are both small, and have fast 40mm F1.7 lenses. I do not own the Revue; the Minolta has full manual override. Both are bigger than the XA, the price you may for speed.

The Xa is about the fastest you'll get in that size, although a Minox 35 may be about the same.
They're small indeed, but the max aperture is 2.8, and they lack an RF. I've always found it next to impossible to get adequate DOF with them at 2.8 when the subject isn't really far off to cover the focus error from guesstimation.

All right guys, thanks for the tips ! I've kept my first idea and picked up a XA on keh ... I'll try it out and see if I'm happy with the little thing. I have until February 2nd to get used to it ...

Just a little side question, between the clones--Konica S3, Minolta 7SII, Vivitar ES, Revue 400--which has full manual, and what do the rest have? Are they all f1.7? Also, which has the sharpest lenses?
