New 50mm f1.1

Interesting.
The price point makes it cheaper than the Canon 50/1.2 LTM...

So at least you'd get a lens that doesn't need an adapter, is haze free, and has no cleaning marks. There is that.
But did you look at the sample pix? They b------low.

This is welcome news.

The lens is listed for sale now on Amazon and eBay at $369.00 including shipping. I do not see it at Adorama or B&H - they usually have the latest new lenses in stock.

Now, we could certainly use some new Leica M compatible film bodies at a modest prices.

So you win some and you lose some 😀

(I only glanced on my phone, but I'd never anything in focus at 1.1 anyway, not for me 🙂)

Interesting lens. It looks far more ergonomically friendly than anything from MS-Optics.

This lens could be a copy of the MS Optical Sonnetar 50mm F/1.1 MC lens.

A 7 elements in 6 groups optical formula like the Nokton 50/1.1, so not a Sonnetar 50/1.1 copy (5 elements in 4 groups).

The bokeh on the samples look a bit sharper / busier than the Voigtlander 50/1.1 (I didn't think that was possible). The coma / shape of the bokeh on the edges is fairly distracting. Not my cup of tea but hey, it's a good price!

Looks like fun. Shipping directly from China to the EU is odd because of taxes etc. Any direct distribution in the EU?

369$ on eBay and free shipping of package which will weight something like 1 kg. Even from China it will still cost them. Plus, seller profit. It is low 300$ lens.
What is manufacturer profit? 30, 50? Production cost 250? Labor?
What kind of glass is this for the price of under $200 and closer to $100? One thing is tiny lens block inside of Minotar 32 2.8. But for 1.1 and its size... Is it secret china glass from Tibetan monks or is it plastic 3D print? Why no examples under bright light?
Copper and aluminium for 400 gm (one pound) lens. M-mount from soft copper for heavy lens?

"Portable Aluminum Mount: Aluminum-made body and copper bayonet designed with a Sonnar formula, 7artisans 50mm / f1.1 weights as light as 400g, portable for your photography."
What? 😕 😱

Seven partisans...

I was seriously considering it over the week-end. Don't mind Shenzhen manufacture, and if you like your iPhone that is made next door, you shouldn't either. And a little less than US400 doesn't mean it's badly manufactured, we are just so used to the super high M-mount lens prices that it seems cheap. But you can buy a lot of lens for this price and an SLR.

I like the 0.7m min. focus, and that it appears user focus adjustable (there is a separate manual for that).

I don't like that they copied some collateral straight from the MS website, that it's clearly not a Sonnar, that it has incredible short focus throw, that the rear element appears too small for a 1.1 lens, and that it has a strongly slanted RF cam. So I didn't go for it.

We'll see what actual users say in addition to what's already out there.

Roland.

PS: don't need to copy leicarumors, here is the website: http://www.7artisans.com

It seems the only selling point is 'it's cheap!'

Ko.Fe did well to point out the copper lens mount. Copper?
