New 50mm f1.1

Starting to develop films:

The focus calibration seems reasonably good at f/1.1 for 1m and 2m out of the box. Focus is on the 'I' in FIRE

I just might. I like odd and esoteric lenses that will mount on my Leicas (M or LTM). And there's just not that much outside Leica, CV, and Zeiss made in M mount. Someday I'll have to compile the possibilities. For example, I often forget about the Handevision lenses. What else?

I don't yet have a Summilux pre-asph e46, but my Canon 50/1.4 and Jupiter 3 tell me I kind of like fast 50.

More examples and experiences please....

Why bother for this lens....

The Nokton 1.1 has Beautiful rendering
You can find them used for about $600.00, just a tad more $
BUT so much more Exquisite in 'look'
Yes bigger, Yes abit more pocket change, but at least no ugly oof

Ooops did I say all that...
hope I did not spoil anyone's lust for a new 'toy' ... b:angel:

I don't think the OOF areas in the photos produced by this Chinese made lens are ugly in the very limited photo samples that I seen.

Of course pleasant OOF areas in photos or " good bokeh " is subjective to personal taste and varies a lot through light, aperture chosen, subject matter, and the individual sample of the lens ( as even the same model and make of lens produce slightly different OOF areas from each other in the same scenic conditions) .

Like I mentioned previously, I own and owned many classic 50mm and other focal length lenses that are revered and sought after that not always produce pleasant OOF areas in photos or good bokeh even most of the time.

The classic 5cm f1.4 Nikkor is one such lens and so is the 5cm f1.5 Summarit and even one your favourite lenses, the 50 CV 50mm f1.5 Nokton has its harsh bokeh moments.

Over all, I would be more concerned with the quality control issues and haphazard factory set-up of this new speed lens for film camera use in my case, as focus cam set-up is critical in any RF lens, especially a 50mm f1.1 speed demon of a lens.

Many people seem to have ordered such a lens, and we will soon learn much more about any limitations in this 50/1.1. It will be an excellent portrait lens on M 4/3 cameras, I think. The challenge will be to use it on a full frame digital camera and to get great results with it.

The images I see here make me really want to have it.
Or rather: I would have already bought it if I wasn't on holiday. 😉

I was about to order this lens-then I decided not to-then I gave it more thought, and I placed an order for the 50/1.1 😀

Several individuals with lots of experience with optics placed orders too, so I followed the trend. I want to encourage the company that makes this lens. They may get much better over time in providing all of us with options for M lenses, and at reasonable cost.

I ended up paying $318 for the lens shipped. I have a $50 buffer for a possible resale if I don't like it. However, I think that I will love this lens. It is smaller and lighter than a CV 50/1.1, I think.
It is less costly than a nikkor 50/1.1 or a Zunow 50/1.1 or a Leica 50/1.0 or a Canon 50/1.2.

Yesterday morning before it got too hot, I ran around town with a ND8 filter on the lens.
The focus across a wide range of distances seems to hold at f/1.1 - so it seems that the lens is perfectly useable with film cameras ( f/5.6 also seemed okay )

All at f/1.1:

It seems that visualizing the Bokeh will be the greatest challenge.

What if 7Artisans sent you a 50/1.1 for evaluation, Helen?! 🙂
Would you turn them down?

I don't think I can trust her evaluation for this lens now, w heavy bias against 'Chinese lens' 😀😀😀, let me guess, she lives near Flashing (New Yawk Chinatown)😀😀😀...It's like sending the lens to Jaap to review 😱

Great choice Raid, Tabao (like Chinese Amazon) is selling Y$1,980 ($291), plus $16 shipping to US, some photos of the user there too

I am really interested by these Chinese (well, I am a Chinese) lenses, I think one of the RFf-er Leo bought a Zonglai 25mm...I'm eyeing on 7Artisans or Zonglai or Neewer's 25mm 1.8, I just need to buy a Sony E mount camera first...

Ok now that I've learned the lens has a .7m MFD I'm more interested. For the price it seems genuinely hard to argue with and not a complete dog. I just have nothing faster than f/2.4 so it would be nice in lower light to have a fast 50 to work with and I have been wanting to do some work with Cinestill 800T for a couple projects. This could make an interesting pairing.

This lens may have another interesting effect, and not a photographic one. If it takes off, it may put downward price pressure on other new and used super-speed lenses. This competition will be to the benefit of enthusiasts needing, or wanting, fast primes.

I dunno, seeing who can take the smallest profit may bankrupt them and then where would we be? It means less to spend on research and so on. Worse still, a lot of firms rely on sales to pay for their service after the sale and so on. So we end up with what?

Following this thread with interest.
I think they will make money with this lens. They most likely are going to make a large amount certainly more than every other brand and they might be able to squeak out perhaps 75-100 dollars per lens profit depending. Most likely the result of excess glass capacity meeting a good use for that glass since computational ray tracing is getting faster all the time. Photos look pretty good
