B&H still don't have the new film in stock because they still have the old (at least for 36 exp.) but Freestyle does and I ordered some rolls on Friday. These pictures look great, thanks for posting Kip & Damaso!

Thanks for the tip. Hope they have it in 120. I always thought TMax got a bad rap. I always really liked this film - 100 or 400 and if I wasn't biased by others, perhaps, it might be my favorites. Sharp, nice contrast, very low grain, nice blacks and very nice tonality. A verrrrry nice film. Works fine in D76 (like everything else...), but never sprung for TMax developer. Looking forward to the new stuff.
I might proclaim TMax the best black and white film in a future rant.

I have loaded my first roll of Tmy400-2, I'm shooting at 250 ala John Sexton, and will develop in HC-110h. He uses D-76 so we will see how the 120 works. I have four more rolls from FreeStyle Photo, and my 6x7 will get back from the Doctor this week, so I will have another roll in there, pronto. Damaso, nice photos! Like NickTrop says maybe a rant on this stuff if it works out. As I said before John Sexton now only uses Tmax film, so it can't be that bad.

I finished my first roll of TMY-2, in HC-110h at 250. It really doesn't appear to have any visible difference from the old Tmax400, except finer grain. Some reports said it really isn't much different, but to me its grain is more close Tmax100 than to old Tmax400. Here is one:

I wonder how the TMY-2 400 will fare with a more dilute or compensating developer. I always found that HC 110 had a tendency to go too high contrast, and that coupled with the inherent contrast of the Tmax film can be problematic.
I hope to get some 35 stock of it in the near future and I will try it a bit more with lower contrast soups. In 35mm I found no reason to drop the speed from the rated 400. The few trials I did with that just had screwed up contrast and more grain.

TomA, I haven't had contrast problems with Tmax100 and HC-110H, but I shoot it at 100. I shot this a 250 (first roll) just in honor of John Sexton (which is what he shots TMY-2) because he lives about 20 miles from where this image was exposed. I think I will creep toward 400, though. I would be interested to hear what you have to say about other developers with TMY-2. So, please, post.

I developed my first roll of the new TMAX400, using Clayton F76+ and made wet prints. Definitely finer grained than Tri-X, as expected. What is unexpected to me was that I miss the Tri-X grain and grit
I am going to try a couple more rolls to see if I eventually like it. I haven't printed anything bigger than 8x10. Maybe I will change my mind once I start making larger prints -- maybe I will start running away from the Tri-X grain then.

UPDATE: I am still trying Tmax400new at 250, but until yesterday I had only used it with HC-110h (this thread, post #105). Yesterday I tried Rodinal 1+50. I over developed so I had some problems with blown highlights, but it looks like I will like it when I get the time right. Here are three from this first roll (35mm), one in open shade, two in mixed sun and shade, and three indoors but natural light through a window:

I've been playing with new TMAX 400 myself lately. Haven't tried pushing it yet, though. Dev'd in XTOL 1:1 based on times on massive dev chart.

Last week I shot a couple of rolls of TMY-2 at a cousin's wedding. The wedding was held under a tent overlooking Lake Michigan on a gorgeous sunny day. TMY-2 handled the huge luminance range just fine even without fill flash.

This is a great film, to me, the improvements of reduces grain really sets it apart from other 400s. Thanks for post Matt et al.

Here is one of my 35mm images, handheld, Tmax400 (TMY-2, new) that I had Costco blow up to 12x18, there was no grain. The image was a little soft at that enlargement. But the grain (lack of) is amazing. I know you can't see much on the web but take my word for it:
