It stands to reason that the distributors selling the most film to the largest outlets will be shipping the new film first. Obviuosly Kodak is shipping TMY-2. However, they did not spend money on new pacakaging. That's understandable. They just put stickers on the old boxes with the old bar codes. In time, TMY-2 will work it's way through the distribution chain.
Conversely, Fuji announced the demise of Velvia. There was enough of the old Velvia in the system to last until the new Velvia was shipped.

Just thought I would report that my local shop (Precision Camera in Austin, TX) has a bunch of 35mm TMY-2 on the shelf. I didn't think to look for 120.
edit: I forgot to mention...the boxes look just like the ones in the Freestyle link above.

I guess it is getting into stores now. I just received my five rolls of 120 from FreeStyle today. I didn't buy any 35mm because they only had 36 exposure.

Good to know. I still haven't called the Kodak store. Aside from laziness, just getting to the store is a mess. Park across the street, cross 4 lanes of busy traffic ... not convenient.

Trius, keep going to the Kodak store. You are our spy 'en quo.'

I bought a box last week and tried it for the first time today. In xtol 1:1, 9:15 secs, inverts every 30 seconds. Here are some of my examples from the roll.
I bought it from a small local shop here in Honolulu, they have boxes of it!

I went to a couple of stores in the past week and asked for TMY-2. They said they'd seen it on the Kodak site, have had customers asking, but all Kodak is offering them is the old version.
Guess Kodak is trying to get rid of the old film before unleashing the upgrade.
This isn't a deep dark secret---Kodak's product announcement says it will be available on a stock-replacement basis beginning 12/07. No reason to simply toss out good film, especially since people who use and rely on the old stuff will need to adjust to the new emulsion.
It's beginning to make its way through retail channels now. My local store has the new stuff in 24-exp 35mm rolls, but is still selling off its stock of the old stuff in 36-exp rolls and 120.

kipkeston, those look great, and it seems that that Kodak exec I heard, I think on NPR, was right that their really is not any new tonal changes to the new emulsion.

Any hints of how well it'll push?

How many....
How many....
different films are we talking about here. Tmax 400 old and new, tmx and tmx-2, tmy and tmy-2, Tmax400-2. I am getting lost or are different people using different names for the same thing? I wish Kodak would use different names for stuff when they change rather than old and new. When does new become old?
Typical configuration control requires at least a new dash number for any change in form, fit or function.
Thanks for your help.

AFAIK, there is no "TMX-2" TMX = T-Max 100. TMY is T-Max 400, and TMY-2 is the new T-Max 400 emulsion.
Given what Kodak is doing with 2-electron technology in their emulsions, I would not be surprised to see further improvements in other stocks.

Will it be offered in 4x5?

Trius, their vision 2&3 technology, is it in any still films yet? Black and White or Color? I couldn't really figure out from their statement if they have incorporated it. I know it is in movie film, and those guys love it.

Bill, I'm pretty sure that it is in sheet film. It is slightly different because it does not have the UV filter that is in 120 and 35. I guess some contact printers use uv light as a light source for printing.

It's very fine grained, even scanned. I haven't compared its grain to the old though. It still has those tmax tones, especially seen in I think the tree of mine. I like it, but my go to film is still tri-x. oh, forgot to mention, it's quite sharp, but I'm already happy with tri-x sharpness. try it

Yes, it is available in 4X5... somewhere I have the stock number, but not on this computer. A 100ft roll of 35 and a box of 4x5 is on my shopping list.
TMY-2 incorporates 2-electron technology. I believe it is also the basis for the recent revisions in Portra emulsions.
My comment about more improvements in still films down the road is more than a guess.

I just listened to the podcast on the new T-Max 400. It is interesting. For those who have not heard it, here it is.
