New York NYC December Meet-up?

While John was handed two or three consumer digital cameras, meanwhile I took eight shots and blew through a new roll of 120. Sorry John, but what are friends for.

Ain't no thang... I got a few of my own. I'll post some tonight.

I had a great time, it was good to catch up after so long! Thanks for everyone who pitched in to buy some birthday drinks. Cal, you get to pick the date of the January meet up!

Barret the "Birthday Boy" will pick the date for the January Meet-Up and also the February Meet-Up because in February we will have the SECOND ANNUAL M-BODY BEAUTY PAGENT which he will be judging.

Since Barret is the MC and judge of the pagent, it is in the "Best Interest" of pagent participants to attend the January Meet-Up to gain favor, garner influence, and bribe the judge with alcohol and food. In the first event, Barret did a great job of enciting audience participation and things got rather rowdy. I laughed so hard, I had tears in my eyes, because Damaso got aggressive over a vintage issue of Leica Fotographia International that featured the Leica M6.

Since I own a JUKI comercial sewing machine and since I am studying men'swear at FIT, at the Second A M-Body Beauty Pagent the Grand Prize will be a custom made camera bag co-designed with the winner.

Here are the rules: Leica M-Bodies only. Initial first round of judging will be based on one camera with one lens, but an unlimited amount of accesssories is allowed and encouaged, but finalists will be judged by a single body two lens kit. The Grand Prize will be a custom made camera bag for the winning kit. The winner will purchase/supply the raw materials for construction and will help design the custom bag. Estimated time of delivery of the prize since I'm a lazy slacker/artist is sometime before the Third Annual Leica M-Body Beauty Pagent sometime in February 2013.

To be fair, Carl is excluded from participation because he is a famous collector and owns a "Ringer." If Carl brings the "Brass Monkey" (The Brass Monkey is a black paint M2 with Leica winder that has about half its paint worn off through use, not abuse.), I will make a custom bag for Carl, but Carl will have to supply all the raw materials.

I will wear to the January Meet-Up a tailored dress shirt that I made as an example of my sewing skills, and I will also bring a working prototype bag that I made for myself to work out possibilities and ideas that remains an incomplete work in progress.

I wish I could join you folks at the White Horse; that place holds a sweet memory for me. On the day I passed my final doctoral exams at NYU, i celebrated with beers at the White Horse. No drunken ladies present because no ladies allowed (that surely dates me.)

Arrgh, old age creepeth. :bang: It was the venerable McSorley's, not the White Horse. Finally, in 1970, the law ruled that ladies had to be admitted or they had to close shop.

I started making a leather camera bag for a two lens M-body kit. I happened to find a sample of very soft Italion black leather for $20.00. I was very lucky. Perhaps it will be complete by the January Meet-Up. No Velcro.

This will be a tease for the Second Annual M-Body Beauty Pagent.

See the rules above. The January Meet-Up is a great opportunity to bribe the judge (Barret). LOL.

I'm cool for a January meet-up... but a tuesday (11th)? How about the weekend before or after your birthday Barrett?

Cal...
When Louis retires, you get his spot.

:)

Funny thing is that yesterday I was at B&H, one of Louis' haunts, but I did not see him. I was buying a new Heliopan multicoated polarizer for my Plaubel and was doing my fly-by at the used department.

I kinda had my own NYC Meet-Up, but it was unplanned and spontainious. I met two hard core dudes. Alexander is a serious sculptor carried a brass toplate M4 with a 35 Cron and told me about making his own 6x12 camera. He does a lot of figuritive work and has a book of photography coming out.

Seems like he has access to a machine shop and he wants to help me spackel a 65mm Rodenstock lense view camera onto another PLaubel 69W when I can afford another one. For me this would be the ultimate street camera being a 28mm equivelent and 6x9. How in your face would that be.

My other new friend was a retro old-old guy wo is totally analog. Back in the early seventies he did a lot of work pushing Tri-X and HP5 with acufine covering stage events shooting Rolleiflexes.

We will be in contact. Also I kinda get mobbed by the salesmen at B&H because we have become good friends. Last night I kinda got hi-jacked by another salesman in the new equipment department.

I happened to meet yet another salesman at B&H (New Equipment Dept.) who marveled over my Plaubel and was heartbroken because he wanted to buy the camera, but it needed a repair. The salesman with the broken heart told me, "It cost $600.00 for the repair," and when it returned I bought it.

I guess all that quick street shooting aslo spills over into my personallity.

Since I forgot that my birthday falls in the middle of next week, I'm thinking about the 15th or the 22nd. Location TBD. I need to get in touch with Cal to sort it out (had a lot of distracting projects these last few weeks, including moving.)

If we are voting, I'm partial to January 22nd.

+1 on the 22d.

BTW Kitok is coming from Philly--so, if we can, lets try to keep him as a regular and try to accomodate him.

The life of an artist offers me flexability, but we need to firm up things if this is going to happen.
