Who has made a f/1.2 or faster lens that is small? I agree that it is the holy grail, but I don't think it is happening soon.

A fast lens will always be bigger. Because the aperture is defined as the Focal length divided by the diameter of the physical size of the aperture. So, faster lens needs to have a bigger diameter.

Got my replacement today.
What I DON'T like about this lens is the, wait for it, 0.5m min focusing distance. Anything below 0.7 is useless for me - it's actually bad because there is room for focus error (significant) at this 0.5-0.7m range. It'll be great for live view use though.

Yeah, the .5m minimum adds to the focus throw too... which annoys me.

To look at a positive of the 0.5m, when scale focussing @f8 for example you are going to be able to get closer 🙂
Hung, you can still pre-focus the lens to 0.70m and then move backward/forward to line up the RF 😉
Um, I don't see what the problem is here. The amount of focus throw from infinity to 0.70m is the same for both the V1 and V2.
Um, true, but from .5 to .7 generally adds more no? I like short focus throw lenses generally... though super fast ones never have short throws. If you check out the Zeiss 28mm it's focus throw is unusually long for a modern 28mm. It's just something that bugs me that's all.

so you would prefer a lens with 1m MFD to one with 0.5m MFD, even if the length of the focus throw from 1m to infinity was the same on both?
I'm beginning to wonder if the whole story about Cosina discontinuing the V1 because they could no longer source the glass for the aspherical elements is just an internet myth. I can't find anything about that on Japanese language websites.
FTR according to Cosina's website both the V1 and V2 have three aspherical surfaces. The words in Japanese for three aspherical surfaces are used -> ３面に非球面を採用

The chrome ring is pretty but I suspect they redesigned it with 0.50m min focus to target all those NEX and M4/3 users 🙄

It works fine at 0.5 m. I stuck a piece of red gaffer tape on my strap that measures 0.5 m from the film-plane and use that as a guide. Need to come up with a more durable solution though as the tape already fell off!

Finally got the pricing here in Czech Republic:
