Now that brings back some memories from my foolish youth, when in seemingly similar stormy conditions I'd take my small racing runabout out dancing across the white wave crests at about 40mph and let the wind lift the bow. Of course your dramatic photo is of the open sea, and my experience was on inland waters of Puget Sound near Seattle, so while reminiscent it may not be the same. Still, I recall taking silly chances like that as a teen, and cracked some ribs too (the boat's, not mine!).
 
Lynn, that's an excellent "love to be by the seaside" photo, all the more so being NYE. So Australian.
