Pentax 67 Gas!

Dale, I went to your site. I liked it, especially the 6x7 stuff. Some of it has an Eggeston (sp) feel. Are you studying photography in college? Good work; keep it up and post more.

I'm studying jazz piano. I don't think I would have come here for the photography program (it's pretty tiny compared to SVA, RIT, RISD, Massart, etc), but fortunately I have a great teacher and the other kids I'm working with are really good.

Haha yup that's my stuff :D I'm surprised you recognized it. I'm facebook friends with Mando, he is one of my favorites, always a constant source of inspiration. Yes, I've been missing his photos as of late.

It's weird, I'm not sure exactly sure where the bug to shoot at night started from. Maybe it was Mando. Todd Hido's work was definitely the kicker....Anyway, I've been going out at night a lot and just having adventures. Walking at night is so much more dangerous than walking during the daytime. ...... I think Texas (where Mando shoots) is a lot brighter in general than Northern Ohio...he seems to have light pollution coming from everywhere.

I started shooting at night for the simple reason I had no time available during the day. I shot mostly in the downtown core of Toronto and would shoot from about 9.00pm to 1.00am then go home. I'd drop off the C41 at the local lab and get the film and a CD at 4.00pm on my way home. I didn't intend to shoot during the night deliberatly it just was all I had available. Most of this set is old and dates back to about 2005 - 2009

FWIW: One of my non photography friends is Brian Dickinson who is a jazz pianist. Let me know when you do a CD.

Add night to the list of things I never seem to get around to. I am inspired!

Last week I traded a Gossen Luna-Pro for a set of P 6x7 extension tubes. I had the tubes with my first P 6x7 in the Dark Ages. I really missed them. Especially with the 150mm lens that I didn't have the first time around. I am excited by what I see through the lens. Film to be loaded & exposures to be made. Soon. Stand by. Close is GOOD!

pentax 6x7 try out with

I am trying out a MLU Pentax 6x7 with a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55mm f/3.5 lens and TTL finder. This is the first roll of film; Fujifilm Pro 800z. All shots were metered with the TTL finder. The roll was developed and scanned by PCV.

This first shot is the owner of the local batteries+ store where I bought the battery for the camera. My elbows are rested on the counter. I think the lens is wide open at F/3.5, but I did not take notes. No filter is used.

This next shot is a motorcycle accident I encountered leaving work. The bike stopped for a stop sign, the SUV did not. Luckily the rider was OK! He and the SUV driver are talking with the Manhattan Beach police officer in the background.
I used a monopod for this shot, and no filter on the lens.

This next shot is the Kerlan-Jobe Bulding in Culver City which looked interesting in the morning light. I used a monopod and no filter on the lens.

This last shot is a 1945 Ford truck that belongs to one of my neighbor. I used a monopod for support, no filter.

Chris, mind me asking what might not be obvious question... why the monopod.. are your experiences at slower shutter speeds dictating this?

Handheld I seldom shoot below 1/125th so I haven't used a tripod except for low light situations where it's usually 1/4 second or less.

I love my pentax 6x7. Love love love it.

Posted most of these already but oh well.. I can shoot at 1/30th to 1/60th all day. That last one one was either 1/15th or 1/30th.

The first picture is amazing. But for street photography, I'd recommend Mamiya6/7 is price is not an issue. For landscape, SLR is the king:D

I used the monopod becasue I know my skills at holding a camera steady are mediocre. Plus I was trying out the camera and lens the first time and wanted to take whether I held it steady enough out of the equation. Given the cost per shot of medium format film developing, and scanning I also try to do what I can to ensure I high success rate.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification.

I've taken a LOT more night-time photos, the ideas behind them have developed since the first shots.

Just got a kit a week ago. Pentax 6x7, 105 and 45. The 45 is all banged up, but still works!

Tried it out while visiting close friends with their new baby.
105 2.4 Tri-X at 1600. Hand held 1/60.

More adventures to come.

Great shot! Shooting at slow speeds is really hard with this camera. That's the kit I started with, it's fabulous for just two lenses but I would recommend getting the 55/4, as it is possibly the best lens in the lineup (quality-wise and just in terms of perspective) and is a lot different than the 45. You could probably get by just shooting with the 105 for your whole life though :) that lens is like magic...

Thanks keytarjunkie. I would love to try out some other lenses, but that will be later. I'd like to try the 300/200 as well as the 55.
