Pennsylvania Philly/ Eastern Penitentiary shoot.

I just spoke with Casey, one of the schedulers at ESP. A private tour, lasting about 1 hour could be scheduled for the group at 10:30 am or later. This would include some areas that are not yet open to the public, such as the operating room in cell block 3. We would not be able to come back to these areas to shoot, but grabbing a few quick shots during the tour would be OK.
Cost would be $150 for the group, which includes the $14 per person admission fee.

The regular public tours start a 2 pm on all days. Spots usually fill, so advanced tickets are recommended, purchased on-line.

The self-guided audio tours are the other option to explore at your own pace.

If the group would like to schedule a private tour in the morning, leaving the time after for individual shooting, we should do this in the next few days. I like this option because it gets us to some places not available with regular admission. The cost would not be much more than admission alone if we have a group of 7.

What would others like to do?

Cal doesn't appear to be here today.

John and Gary,

Add me in.

Don't forget Phillipe, Jim and Ben.

I feel pretty confident that we will have at least 7.

Also it is not too early to book the Megabus. This kinda firms things up because the Megabus offers no refunds. MAKE SURE YOU BOOK RESERVED SEATING for $1.00 more or else run the risk of waiting for the next bus or even the next 2, 3 buses if you make the mistake of only getting general seating.

One guy we met on the bus going to Philly waited for 3 buses because he did not reserve a seat. Also if you are late (recommended arrive at least 15 minutes early) or you run the risk of loosing your reserved seat. It seems the bus gets filled faster on the return trip. Don't get stranded in Philly: make sure you reserve your seat.

I'll be booking the 6:50 AM bus from NYC and the 6:15 PM from Philly for May 22d later today. I don't know if the rates are any lower booking so far in advance. I'll report back later...

I already booked my Megabus tickets.

My reserved seat number is 15 in the upper deck. It seems that reserved seating is limited and is bound to sell out if you wait too long. Somehow I saved $0.50 by booking very early. Don't get price gouged by having to buy the panoramic seats or the balcony seats.

Price was $30.00 for reserved seating

Yes John, that's the one. The return is 6:15pm. I just booked, and the total is $30 for the RT for reserved seats.

What time to return?

John,

Yes. 6:50 AM depart 34th Street between 11th and 12th on May 22d.
We take the bus to the end: 30th Street Terminal.

For the return trip book the 6:15 PM from 30th Street Terminal. On the trip home we get dropped off very near FIT at 8:30.

The bus rides are rather brief. MAKE SURE YOU DO RESERVED SEATING.

Randy,

Jean-Marc, Phillipe and I met up with Ben. Our last trip was really great.

We are set for May 22d. At 9:00 AM Philly time we will be at the 30th Street Terminal on Market Street.

Have you shot ESP? If so give use the tease...

Cal

No, I've never been there - that's a 'tourist place' - so that would be new for me as well.

I can go in on the group tour if you are still doing that.

Randy

Ok, done...I'm seat 16, upper deck.

Alright. We are going to have mucho fun.

Philly's differences made me realize the different cultures between the two cities. I found this very refreshing.

Did you take notice of how limited the Reserved Seating was. I say less than 20 seats. Well worth the $2.00 to make sure you get on the bus as long as you are not late.

Anyways a really nice day-trip for no money. Also know that in the first week in June is some brew/beer festival in Philly. Know the food is outstanding.

Randy,

Check out EasternState.org for some preliminary shots. This seems like a great photo opportunity and also a great challenge. To me this is a very interesting place to shoot.

Please join us.
