Pic of X1 next to Barnack "Standard"?

While they may resemble each other in size, etc, the only real connection between the cameras is that they both have the "Leica" name on them. Nostalgia sells, though. Wonder how many 70 year old X1's will still be in use? 😉

Not a Standard, but does give you an idea of size:

Thanks for the link to the article, Vince.

What is it with these flossy reviewers ?

" Bears a strong resemblance to the M" ? !

Only if you're looking at the red dot... bears a MUCH stronger resemblance to the Leica Standard / I Barnacks....

Now if it only had a 39 mm LTM lends mount... 😀

Something like this would push me over the edge into digital-land, but I'll bet it's priced a little beyond my budget...

Is there a shutter delay with the X1 like some other point and shoots? I have read about this, but forgot what they verdict was.

There is an autofocus delay, but not really a shutter delay. So, if you pre-focus by pressing half-way, then it is quick to release the shutter once the shutter button is released the whole way.

So, not much different than shooting a film M and having to focus manually? I guess that would qualify for a focus delay...

gotcha. I don't use the zone focus technique, perhaps I should look into learning how to do that. I see that it's talked about on in these forums.

I was hoping the X1 would make a nice small digi that I could take on travel with the bigger sensor size, and not have the compromise of a point and shoot both functionally and with image quality. I also don't want to carry a larger DSLR for travel.

The X1 is certainly is cool looking camera, but it may not suit my needs unfortunately.🙁

I have, and also the EP1/2. I have downloaded samples from these cameras and of those 2 I prefer the EP1/2 images. I have read the GF1 is faster though. Also the Sigma DP2 was very nice.

Every time I think about some of this stuff, I keep coming back to using my film cameras, but sometimes having a little digi (other than the 4 or 5 year old eplh we have) would be nice. We'll see. Just tonight I was pondering the M9, but that's just a dream right now🙂

Looking at the pictures again and I wonder why they couldn't have raised the top plate one side and given us a view-finder for (say) the three commonest lenses?

And it would really look retro then...
