question on hexar af and pesky ND compensation

hi,

i have a question regarding hexar af with i believe doesn't have TTL AE.

assuming i am using a 400 iso film, i believe the 1/250 should be
adequate for the job, given that the most narrow aperture is f22?

now if i am using a ISO 1600 film, say my last few rolls of Neopan 1600 for night and indoor shots, and i have a few left over shots during the day, how should i compensate the ISO settings with a Neutral density 2-stop filter ? Do i attach the filter, set the iso to 400, when finished, still develop at 1600 iso ?

I believe you have the right idea. Compensate by changing the iso, then develop normally.

Yes, that's right. The effective speed of the Neopan 1600 with the 2 stop ND filter is 400 (1600 minus 2 stops) so you set the camera to 400. Develop as normal. Once you get used to it, using filters with the Hexar is quite straightforward. Just set the film speed on the camera to whatever the speed of the film is modified by the filter factor of the filter you have attached.

In some ways its easier than TTL metering, where the camera's meter sensitivity may not correctly compensate for the filter, e.g. if it's over sensitive to the red spectrum.

You could also rewind the film and use it again later when light allows iso 1600.

The hexar af leaves the lip of the film out if you open the back immediately after the rewinding stops, after a few seconds he rewinds a bit further and the lip is gone.
The loading mechanism is so good that you just go to the framenumber you where on.
