there was a brief but intense bit of time where a few members bought new/er mp leicas recently.

i'm wondering how you are liking them? is the camera all you had hoped for?
any problems or concerns?

I must not think about a new MP...
repeat 100 times, do not pass go, do not collect 100 USC, do not use cut (copy) and paste

Joe,
I bought mine used here and have had no problems whatsoever. Mine is a black paint version, are you in the market for one?

Joe, I bought mine 2 years ago so I guess not quite recently. I had a meter problem (meter didn't work properly) and sent it back to Leica (in the US as I had a passport warranty). Came back within 3 weeks and everything has been 100% fine since then. My MP is my carry-around camera that I have with me almost all the time now. I LOVE it - it's become so second nature for me . You will too. :)

I bought my MP (black w/0.72 viewfinder), brand spanking new, back in November, 2004. Just a fantastic 35mm rangefinder camera that never fails to deliver first-class images and, as strange as this may sound, has probably made me a better photographer. The best feature, to me, is the viewfinder/rangefinder which is well-defined, bright and contrasty and makes focusing/composing quick, accurate and easy. Definitely not cheap, but worth every penny.

Bought mine close to a year ago. 0.85, Black Chrome a la carte. The rewind knob needs adjustment as it is now slipping when rewinding, unlike my M2 which was built in the 60's. Other than that, it's a fantasticly built camera.

Three new MP's of which two are a la carte. All are less than two years old and one a la carte is developing shutter problems. I fear QC has fallen at Leica.

joe,

i have heard that ilford's hp5 gives its best results when housed in a black paint MP with a ZM 35/2 lens capturing the light. Not sure if that's rubbish, but if you have a ZI body you want to sell...please let me know:)

good cheer,
thomas

not looking for an mp, honest!!

i was curious how people were liking that particular camera...there was so much talk about them awhile back.

for me, i am content. i love the zeiss ikon and r4m combo. it's a strange feeling to be so satisfied.

my next camera will be a drf when film disappears;)

Despite the shutter problem I love the cameras but also love the ZI, M6, M2 and M3 that i have. Also love my Nikon slr's and other cameras. Are leicas any better than any other camera, I don't think so. They're just another tool for another kind of shooting. Ther're many really fine cameras and lenses out there that don't have the Leica name on them.

I bought my MP (used, 2 years old, silver, x0.72) in March here in Japan and so far like it. The viewfinder is a little better compared with the M6 (the reason why I swapped the cameras) and I really like the re-wind knob and advance lever. However, the rewind knob starts to slip when rewinding film and the shutter-button is a little sticky. Battery-life is short, after two month of moderate use the two SR44 cells were drained. I talked with the Leica people here and the camera is still covered under warranty so I will sent it in for service.

I've had my 0.85 black paint about a year and half. Love it. Bought it almost MINT from Tamarkin in NY for a big discount from new.

Had a recent conversation with a certain well-regarded woman who repairs Leicas and shared with her that I had considered selling my MP for an M6 and using the difference in funds for a lens. I told her I decided to keep that MP and she said I made the right decision. An M6 is a very good camera she says but not one of the best built of the bunch, especially compared to earlier M's. Seems, in her opinion and experience, the M6 metering is not altogether that different than the ill-reputed CL's meter. She says it will be interesting when the M6's get as old as the CL's....

I have the black paint .72 MP. It's a Great camera. I'm very content with it. (I'd say "I love it," but I just said I love my D200 in another thread. A grown man loving a camera...who ever heard of such nonsense!). :)

My black paint MP 0.75 has worked without problems since i purchased it two years ago, the Leicavit-M now lives on it permanently.
