If I may be slightly off-topic...
Magus, the .58 is a wonderful VF for 35mm lens as well- you get almost the same view as the 50mm frameline in a .72VF. Very nice indeed. I find myself shooting all the more with the .58 body, both the 35 and 28 lenses. I heartily recommend the .58

So, anyone want to take a nice M6TTL in for trade towards a nice MP?
No, not really, but I would be tempted if the right opportunity came up, and I had a few extra pennies to throw into the deal to make it happen.

I bought my used MP Black .72 in April. It was the Leica rep's demo. I have one real big problem with mine....I can't put it down! I love the camera and shooting with it is magical. I wish I could describe in detail the experience but magical, for me, says it best.

Bought new my chrome .85 MP about a year ago. Have a mint chrome tabbed 50mm Summicron mounted most of the time and just aquired a mint crhome 90mm Elmarit-M. Wouldn't trade of sell the camera . Loaded with Tri-X it's about as perfect as it gets for me.

In early 2004 I bought a new MP LHSA Hammertone (one of the few numbered over 3 million). When I handled one for the first time I knew I had to have it.
Initially I was somewhat disappointed in it. Within the first year the finder filled with dust from the newly designed eyepiece and (out of the box) it had a sticky shutter. But I sent it off to Leica to have the finder sealed under Passport and it came back perfect (the finder is now sealed and the shutter is silky smooth).
Overall I don't think the MP is any better than the M6 I traded for it, but I would never go back - I prefer the M3/2 style RW mechanism and there is something about that Hammertone finish. I never noticed any difference in the film advance, which is supposed to be far smoother than the M6.
The MP was my primary shooter until I got my M7... But make no mistake about it - I will never sell it.

The MP is rubbish...
... because is cleans out your bank account. Apart from that I would change nothing. Love mine. They make no real financial sense but are wonderful to use, own and for the Leicaphiles, to fondle. make no mistake about it they are very practical and great in use. They even take pictures too!

My chrome MP body was bought used in July 2005. It developed a vertical rangefinder alignment problem after a travel to China. It was corrected fast and for free bei Leica Solms. My hammertone MP body was bought new in June 2006 and has a slightly sticky shutter release. It is not disturbing enough to send the camera to Solms. But at some occasion I will have checked it. I do not consider these issues as serious problems. I had many cameras before but never any which are so much fun to use. Since digital recording is not my cup of tea I am pretty sure that these were my last camera purchases.

Hi Bob,
Could you still try to describe what is it you mean by "magical" here? Based on what some people here say - while they like their MPs - it's not that much different than M6 or M7 in handling. I wonder, as I have M6 and M3 - what is it that makes MP so different?

I would say the MP is very similar in use to an M3 (with a meter), so If you have a black paint M3 and have had a meter installed internally then I wouldn't bother with the MP 😉

the M6 (TTL at least..I never used a ""classic" M6). The finder is not just more flare resistant...it's 30% brighter (the M7 may use the same finder...not sure). My MP was ordered a la carte w/ 0.85 finder in Blk Chrome....it is lighter than the silver or black paint versions. The shutter is very well damped. More so than my early 60's M2 ( a joy to use...but not as nice). It's also slightly smaller than the M6TTL (not sure about the M6/M7 size difference). Obviously, the camera serves the same function, but does so in a more elegant manner. Nothing wrong w/ the other models. If you enjoy those, you'll love the MP for sure.
