30 % brighter? WOW!!!! Is it better than Zeiss Ikon's VF? Anyone has both ZI and MP to compare?
 
I think my mp is the best leica I have owned. It feels good to be an original mp owner knowing most likely you’re not the last owner of the camera. (How many items in this disposable world can you say that with assurance). Buy one before they stop production???
 
MP's are lovely cameras. I bought mine a la carte with Vulcanit trim, black chrome body and an M7 style rewind crank and I'm delighted with it. Is it better than my M6 TTL? Hard to say: clearly there is no difference in picture quality but the MP is a fraction smaller and, at this point (I've only had it a couple of months) the mechanics feel crisper than the M6's. I don't imagine I'll ever buy another 35mm camera, but if I did, I would certainly strongly consider another MP.
 
Got my a la carte black chrome 0.85 MP just two months ago. After 14 rolls I'm more and more in love with it. Best camera I ever owned.

Why?

Because it makes me think about the photo I'm about to take more than any other camera ever did before. I guess it's the simplicity that gives me the feeling it's up to me to make the photo the way I want it to be, since I'm in complete controll.

All,

I've had a MP3 kit since january and it has been an excellent camera to me.
I did need a few weeks to "grow into" the camera, but after that it feels wonderful using the all manual controls, the subtle mechanical noises,...

I like how it slows me down and the "selectiveness" of the 50mm (which is kind of a 'short tele' rather than a 'normal' lens to me) forces me to think more about my composition.

But recently some problems arrived.

First, I started having the infinity misalignment problem other's have had (I think it was x-ray).
Next, I discovered faulty 1/4th and 1/8th shutter speeds (the delay mechanism of those two speeds does not seem to work, other slow speeds are fine).
Finally, a late afternoon sun burnt a hole in my shutter in literally less than 5 minutes (I went to the toilet, but forget to tell my girlfriend to keep my camera out of the sun should the clouds go away).

... shigh 🙁 ...

I hope this can all be repaired under the Passport guarantee

... still love my MP but I will sent it for service to Leica finally. The shutter seems to have a problem at 1/1000s (vertical banding stripes in recent films) and this together with the short battery life of two month and the loose rewind knob convinced me that a service is necessary. 🙁 So my next business trip to Canada will be with the M4-P 🙂
 
I have a LHSA MP3. I haven't really warmed to this camera yet, but then I haven't had much of a chance to shoot it. I really really really do not like the plastic ISO dial on the back, a big ugly hunk of plastic, nor the plastic rim of the battery compartment in front. It's starnge because I am not one to complain about plastic devices usually and rather like them. However, these just look and feel so out of place on the MP(3) that they really bother me. I also find that the viewfinders attract finger prints like dust to a dust mop and that reduces the visibility and contrast through the finder. It also tends to introduce flare. And no sooner do I celan them off, than the finger prints reappear. Finally, a minor quibble, the bottom locking thingey has lost the friction that holds the locking bail to its base, allowing it to hang down. I guess I should get this fixed, although it doesn't bother me so much when I have the MP3 in its Luigi case. I was sure I'd love this camera - go figure. Perhaps I will warm to it over time.

well, when you spend the better part of $5,000 for camera kit I guess you should expect perfection......MP3 is a real specialty....of course it's not perfect...I like the plastic ISO dial on my a la carte...it's much easier to turn than the one on my former M6

The black finish of the MP is an enamel or laquer application and consequently will wear easier than the M6 or M7 which is black chrome. The wear of the MP will appear as brassing while the M6/7 will look sort of grayish.
I'm no expert on a la carte editions but I'd be surprised if the MP couldn't be ordered in black chrome.

B/C does not wear the same....some complain of a dulling in the shine....mine still looks wonderful....it is also lighter because a Zinc rather than brass top plate is used to hold the finish. Makes for a sweetly light kit w/ the right lens.
 
I'm guessing because they are not in great demand. I assume the process for making the finish adhere to the metal is somewhat different. All I can say is mine still looks great and is wonderfully light, but solid.
