Roman Polanski shoot with a screwmount Leica

Roman Polanski is an immensly talented director and knows more about framing than most top notch cinematographers and yes he has a dark side. After all he wanted to make a movie about the murder of his pregant wife (Sharon Tate). Interestingly both Saudek and Polanski were victims of the Nazis and both their works deals very openly with sexuality and taboos.

I also have to add that most greek philosophers and many romans were pedophiles by today's standard but nobody would say that he has to puke if he had to use Pythagoras, Sokrates, etc... . Charlie Chaplin is very popular as well not only a commie but also a pedo yet nobody seems to complain about him. Caravaggio was a murderer, so were Lully and Moliere the later ones enjoyed killing homeless people. Picasso was another moral cockroach great artist but as a human being he was less than stellar. And let's not forget Andy Warhol the great american Artist who had no problem coercing people into bed and would destroy some persons because they refused his coercion or broke up with him.

Most people who love art seem to be able to overlook the artists deficencies as a human being and very few famous artists were nice persons maybe Rubens but that's it.

The most shocking thing to me, after reading all of these posts is to learn that Charlie Chaplin was a pedophile! I had no idea.

I'm surprised nobody has brought up Woody Allen and his wife/daughter :D

Was he married to 'Mother Earth' (?) and as he said, 'I didn't have a relationship with her (future wife) until Dec. 17 not the 16th' as his girlfriend/Mia claimed (she [his future real wife]) came of age on the 16th). Besides what does this have to do with a Bozo Polish Hollywood type using a IIIf to look cool, he still is a poser and tosser jerk. And I doubt if he has the brains to use a IIIf.

As a sixteen year old boy ... it made quite an impression on me! LOL :D

For some reason I didn't see it until much later, maybe 1990 or so when I rented the movie from the local video store. She was seriously hot when young, and even at 60 she looked better than a huge percentage of women younger than her.

According to the all-knowing World Wide Web, Chaplin had a 15 year old girlfriend when he was 19, and never got much beyond that target age .

The needle on my outrage meter did not budge.

Not applicable here as no charges are pending. And wasn't she an adopted daughter? Still too far out for many, but lessens the creepiness factor somewhat...

She was Mia Farrow's adopted daughter, not Woody Allen's. Allen and Farrow were never legally married, and the adopted daughter was an adult when he began sleeping with her. Totally different from the Polanski case, where a 13 year old CHILD was drugged and then raped

Thanks, I had forgotten the details. Still too weird for my taste, but at least it involved consenting adults...

Too bad this has turned out this way . . .

Too bad this has turned out this way . . .

If you read the Vanity Fair article, many of the facts are in dispute in the crazy California justice system. He is a great director and he uses a Leica -- an old one. That is all I posted.

Maybe we should all throw away our Nikons and Canons because the Japanese raped the women in Nanking.

Romel, by the way, has a 3.5 Elmar on his. I wonder whether any pix he took survive.

Polanski is 80 years old today, and remains a rapist (America) and a movie genius (global)
He should make a movie about his own rape case, before drowned (to death) by the saliva of some of our righteous posters
Draft; LAPD send out die-harder dective Willis to Paris and take him back to LA (and/ or have him pick cottons in Louisiana) On the plane, he explains the whole story and Willis decide to...

'Child rapist Roman, I hope you rot in Bakersfield prison!'
I hope they put this line I wrote in the movie...

I enjoy his 'Chinatown' of course, one of the best Hollywood movie,
and 'Bitter Moon'(younger wife older man don't mix), 'Frantic', both movie starred his real life wife,

and 'Death and the Maiden' proved him a genius, again...

this post has 'no imply to any real rff poster, any resemblance is purely coincidental'
not serious taipei-metro

I completely agree that it's not the same, I was just surprised that no one had brought it up so far :)

I think in Allen's case the creepiness has worn off a bit now that they've been together for so long. And it does seem that she was well into legal age when they started seeing eachother. However, even if she was never legally his daughter it's still weird to think that you wake up one day and think "that girl that my kids regard as their sister is kinda hot".

On a related note, I did look up the Allen case on Wikipedia and it says that Mia Farrow first found out about him and Soon-Yi when she found nude pictures he had taken of her. Also, in the case of Polanski he asked his victim to come to his house under the pretense of a photoshoot.
Since this is a photography related forum it would be interesting to discuss the fact that when there's some sort of scandal more often than not photography is involved in some way or another.

Miley Cyrus' photo by Annie Leibovitz big scandal fast forward to 2013 who is swinging naked in a MTV Video
Never even heard of this one (the Cyrus/Leibowitz shot) but there are always those who will scream "Child Pornography" when anyone under the age of 18 is photographed in the nude, no matter how. A scandal I do remember from 1981 was Bow Wow Wow cover where they re-created Le dejeuner sur l'herbe and the lead singer was (I just Googled it) 15 -- http://sleevage.com/bow-wow-wow-see...in-your-gang-yeah-city-all-over-go-ape-crazy/ I rather prefer the reconstruction to the Manet. On looking at it for the first time in years (possibly decades), I notice that the highlights on the water are blown. Oddly enough, I never noticed that when I was younger...

Cheers,

R.

The only reason I heard of them was the (somewhat manufactured) "scandal" which was reported in (I think) the BJP. But I rather like the picture.

Cheers,

R.

I shall never read one of your articles again, liking such a disgusting image tsk tsk tsk :). Seriously the picture is not bad and I don't really see the scandal. But let's not forget Sutcliffe and his shameful depiction of bathing boys that got him excommunicated. Photography is full of perverts one should really start to forbid this artform so much perversion eek :)
