You are quite right. I only know you from what you say. And what you said demonstrates that you know nothing about depression. All right, I'll modify that. Little or nothing.

Depression varies in intensity and duration and is not uncommonly 'mirrored' by unreasonable elation: what used to be called 'manic depression' and is now called 'bipolar disorder'.

I did not say that he was depressed. I simply said that was a possible, reasonable explanation. Your choosing to reject any possibility of a reasonable explanation, and to react aggressively to both the seller and to me, is your privilege.

Personally I'd rather take Brian's view (Climbing Vine).

Six weeks ago, late on a Sunday night, I suffered a heart attack and was rushed into hospital, two hours before that a gentleman here in the UK had Paypalled me for a Leitz lens that I had on Ebay, and I promised to despatch it next morning. I woke on Monday morning covered in wires and tubes, and realized I would not be able to keep my promise. After visiting time, my wife emailed said gent, and explained what had happened, he was most understanding, saying that should be the last thing on our minds, and not to worry at all. She posted the lens three days later, and he replied - expressing delight! - I'm still in good shape, and so is my 100% pos. feedback! 🙂

So this is pretty nasty. You need to get the item or get your money back, no doubt. Yesterday. But the guy has never absconded with anybody's money from what we're hearing. Calling him a "scammer" sounds like libel to me. Say "he's slow so if you're impatient then beware", but that is utterly different.

The seller is unreliable to deal with.

He has the buyer's money, an email or a PM could have cleared any personal problems he is having getting to the post office in this length of time.

Short of him being incarcerated, kidnapped, hospitalized, or dead.. there is no excuse.

"Unreliable" can mean a lot of things. Why not call a ***** a ***** (because painting things in extremes is more fun, I'm sure). "He can take a long time to ship but so far he hasn't stolen anyone's money" sounds a lot less exciting and a lot more accurate.

His name is getting trashed here on the forum you think he would want to clear this up.

You paid him, so the money most likely would have gone into his bank account. Paypal will pull that money back out of his account if the dispute escalates to that point.
Obviously, he won't be able to prove the kit was delivered to you. So you'll win the dispute. Of course, once Paypal threatens action, he may finally be spurred to action.

Don't you just love sellers who want quick payment, but then take forever to ship the item they sold?

Situations can alter drastically very quickly, and not everyone has an efficient partner around to deal with things!.

Did everyone miss this post from page 2? It seems that all this talk of car accidents, depression, heart attacks does not fit this particular situation.

Dear Brian

I completely agree. 'Scammer' (= 'thief') is a very different animal from 'unreliable' or even 'hopelessly unreliable'.

What I find really unpleasant is the way that the OP asked a balanced question; received broadly the same advice from most people ('Contact Paypal, and name him if things don't work out'); and unwittingly unleashed a combination witch-hunt and lynch mob.

If as you say, he hasn't stolen anyone's money, but is not willing to close the transaction in reasonable time , and does not give a tracking number and stops communicating with the buyer. then he is unreliable as a seller.

So when he feels like it, he might , just might get to the post office and mail the parcel the buyer has paid for and is waiting for.

Yeah, sounds fair to me, this absolves him of any wrong doing.

Maybe he is on a power trip to irritate an innocent person, the buyer.

He obviously does not care about his own reputation.

Yes. WHich is why the OP should post a PayPal claim.

I would share the OP's frustration, but I don't see how launching a feeding frenzy helps. A vendor can be slow, irritating, a bit useless, but that doesn't make them a scammer. A PayPal claim is preferable to ensuring that a poster is hounded out of rff.

I;ve always posted within a couple of days - but as i mentioned, my last deal at rff I had to wait 13 days before the item was posted. I didn't get annoyed. Was i being too easy-going, Subhash???
 
I think the sellers should actually send the items and give me 3 weeks to pay.🙂

This wording is what would concern me:

"I've run into some rough times lately and need to raise some money ASAP, hopefully this will be sold by the end of the day."

Doesn't look like depression, looks like a cash flow problem.

Yes - I've allways been pretty fit, and it helped!, my wife's a nurse and realized that speed was important, helped the paramedics get the 'clot busters' into me!.....sometimes I think some 'clot busters' are needed around here! 😀

This has nothing to do with seller in question, just a thought I wanted to post.

Roger Hicks is very correct when talking about depression. I work in a mental health facility as a registered nurse and it is very sad how debilitating the disease can be. It can be pretty upsetting to hear others make light of the situation.

And no, this is not the first time this seller had scam labeled on him. While in my experience I received item, about one week after it should have arrived (so about 2 weeks since paypal payment), another member states that item was never received. Here is the link from a previous thread talking about a similar incidence.
 
There is no negative feedback on the seller's RFF profile. You might want to do that as well.

The words "slacker" and "indifferent" are on his Flickr profile, I'd be automatically wary of anyone who describes themselves as such.

Glad you got early treatment Dave, hope you are feeling better.
