Sell my equipment for a X2?

fantastic roadmap, but this
Make at least a thousand photos you are satisfied with using it.
G

wow, I hope I can make 100 really good pictures in my lifetime (and I'm optimistic).
You're sending the OP for a life sentence with the X2 😉

thanks guys! jejeje

The final point is.. Do I need more than 8000€ in equipment or the x2 for 1200€ does everything a photojournalism or street photographer needs? This is for sure the big question.

Bruno

People do excellent work with Holgas and Iphones.
Only you can know if you really use your gear or not, and if you can do without .

Yes but, I have this friend who use an enlarger with his negatives of Rollei, leicas... My God, that 3D, great greyscale... Pfffff! Wants to go out of the paper, never seen that on digital.

Could You show me some good digital examples, prints examples, please?

I could, but not on the internet of course. Not sure how you'd like me to show you prints.

The bottom line is that great work has been done, and is being done, with both film and digital. Neither of these can be blamed for bad photography (or bad prints). They are simply tools and mediums.

I'd be selling, but not buying. You have a lot of very pricey stuff there, your M lenses, MP, and M8. Take a look at what you use and what you don't, and sell what you don't use.

Very few photojournalists could only use an X2.
One needs all manner of equipment!
The most important is reliability.
Canon-Nikon ruling the roost.
When i was full time PJ,
equipment had to be 'part of one's eye and heart'.
As much as i love my Leica, the SLR was way more useful, for me, with long lenses and especially, the wide angles.
A thousand digital
images would be one weekend for me.
Not exactly a life sentence..
Good pix is relative.
When i was not shooting, i was selling my images.
Oh! My career was on Pentax Spotmatic and Mamiya-C .
The Twin Lens ones..
Stop foruming, go take photos..

i thought about all the advice given.
It was all good.
You don't fit Leica or Rollei or maybe even film..
It's a new age with digital. Go with "newer and better".
i personally see no point in Thousands of dollars in a X2.
It is a point and shoot. There are many of those.
No red dot, so way less money.
Leica cannot compete with major players.
Making themselves, a very expensive luxury, a good plan.
Sell off the lot. Every item, soon as possible.
In place of X2, buy a Canon,Fuji with way less money.
Go on a long trip.. Enjoy.

I didn't say "good pictures". I said "pictures you are satisfied with." There's a difference.

But it seems Bruno isn't really listening, he's too busy asking opinions.
Bottom line is that you have to think for yourself, in the end.

No Godfrey... I'm listening carefuly, Don't be upset I apprecciate all your respectable opinions, of course.

I'm feeling bad for have so expensive and greater equipment being a mediocre photographer, and I need to find peace of mind with myself, but in the end I don't want to be without a great camera and lens, that's it.

M8 sold... good.. keep reducing my gear.

There you go, now you have it out of your system.

Bruno: IMHO, the biggest obstacle to good photography is lack of time. If you have it, travel, keep your scanner, use your film gear, develop yourself, stay off the internet. Give it a year or two and see what happens. I wish I could do that ....

And don't worry about other people's opinion, mine included 🙂

Thanks ferider!

Yes.. If I keep my MP and just a 35 probably I could afford a good and long trip and long term project in America or Asia. Internet forums make me worst photographer and an insane buyer-seller.

Two months ago I was even thinking in buy the Leica S2 (pfffffffff crazy me).

BTW, seems to be.. everybody has the same opinion about the masters and courses.. waste of money and time.

I think it is great advice to set yourself a project or a goal and work towards that.

The great thing is the choice of gear will just fall into place. Try one combination that you think will work (e.g. 28mm) and see what happens. If it's not wide enough, or too wide, you will know what to correct.

Or if your project involves travel and you need to finance the trip, think about selling gear to fund the trip. If you don't need to fund, don't worry about selling. How you value yourself as a photographer shouldn't be a reason for selling equipment. Cameras and lenses are just tools for taking photographs. Don't worry how expensive your hammer is or how bad your screwdriver looks, just figure out if they are the right tools for the job.

Thank You doolittle 🙂 I will take your advice and many others around here, I will sell everything, just keep the X2 and stay away from forums, magazines, etc. Will travel, light by the way, enjoy my fiancée, places, people, and photography, I need to be apart for a while, too much pressure.

Thanks all!

I will start an advice for my MP, 28 cron, coolscan.. etc.
