Here's the silo and the side of the barn from my last post. I shot this Thursday evening.
These brick silos are no longer built, but a lot of them still stand. Few are in such nice condition as this one. It is the only one i have seen in many years that still had the roof on it.

what?
Photography is nothing to do with location ... it's about seeing what's around you.
Thanks for this series Chris.![]()

Chris has a wonderful talent for doing this and making these (IMO) timeless images of stuff many of us would never pay attention to.

Thanks, Gareth and Dave. Here's the last photo I made at the farm with the flag on the barn. This smaller barn sits in the field behind the one with the silo and flag. Not a very interesting barn, but the sky looked beautiful to me.

One of my photographs of a farmhouse on a hill in southern Indiana was used on a movie poster. The movie, Daylight, was filmed in Indiana and shown at the 2013 Frightfest film festival in London.

Thanks, Gareth. Here's my original that they made the poster illustration from:

On Railroad Street in the small town of Uniondale, Indiana, there is an ancient 19th century building that was an auto repair shop for many years. The old retired mechanic who owns the place lives in an apartment in the back of the building.
This is one of the front windows of the garage. The old man who owns it says that he has a lot of American flags on display because his son is an Army Ranger in Afghanistan. This flag is made of paper, and is badly faded.
I shot it last month. Several weeks ago, I posted a color photo of the back of the building. I have some more black and white ones to finish editing.

I was driving back to Fort Wayne in the evening after photographing the place in Uniondale in my last post, when I spotted this "Sold Out" sign in front of a farmhouse on State Road 1, just north of US-224.
I thought it an unusual sign to have in front of a house, since the place didn't look like a business. The old man who lived there told me that he was a beekeeper, and he had sold the last of his honey. He didn't understand why I wanted to photograph his sign, but he was kind enough to let me do it.

This old Coca-Cola icebox sits in front of the old auto repair garage in Uniondale. I photographed it on the same day as the flag in the window I posted a few days ago.

I haven't checked this thread for a while, and must say I am impressed with these recent additions, especially the composition of the farmhouse with the American flag. Congrats on the movie poster, although IMHO the original has a mood/feeling of desolation that the poster lacks. Wording, text placement, and layout do make the poster work for the required theme of fear. I mean all of this in a good way, so please take it as a compliment. In high school I took a lot of art and art history, but then in University I studied engineering, then worked in IT, and now work in a bank. These are not powerpoint slides with charts and graphs so my ability to express myself is breaking down...

Yeah the house looks a lot different on the poster, but I didn't design the poster, I just sold them a photo! Money is good, it makes it possible for me to keep doing this

The church where my scout troop met had one of these in the basement. The bottles hung from racks by their necks immersed in refrigerated water. You guided your selection to the gate, put your money in and the gate released when you pulled the bottle up. These were fantastic; the pop was so cold it hurt your teeth to drink it. Price was right too, ten cents.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know how it worked. I've seen several of these over the years, but none were operational. I always thought it was just a big cooler that you opened from the top; didn't realize it was a coin-operated machine! Cool!

I found this American flag flying at a construction site on Rudisill Boulevard on the south side of Fort Wayne, Indiana. A sign on the site said that a rent-to-own furniture store is being built there.
These places profit from squeezing the poor, charging them 3-4 times what the otems they sell cost at normal stores. The construction of a new one here shows the real state of the economy in northeast Indiana.
I made this photo August 5. The building is nearly finished now.

Just east of the Indiana-Ohio state line, the landscape in rural Paulding County, Ohio, is dotted with wind farms.
The image of a basketball hoop by a cornfield is one of the first things that come to mind when Americans think of life in the rural midwest. Wind turbines are not yet as common as corn and soybeans here, but that is changing.
This scene is on Ohio State Route 500, about half a mile east of the state line. I photographed yesterday evening, shortly before sunset.

^ Great light on that last photo, and I like the composition. Wind farms are very common here, and even more so in Germany. When I arrived here 11 years ago many people were still complaining about them, but not any more. Also, my 2 year old is fascinated by them.

Thanks, Robbeiflex. Wind farms are common in the western United States. I saw a lot of them in Texas and Oklahoma when I lived out in New Mexico, but they're just starting to appear in the midwestern states. There aren't any in the part of Indiana where I live, but this one in Ohio is just a 20 minute drive from Fort Wayne.
Here's another photo of the scene, this time just showing the tree and basketball hoop.

This is about a quarter mile down the road from the place where I photographed the tree, basketball hoop, and wind turbines in Paulding County, Ohio.
