My biggest problem with street photography is I have not lived in places where a lot of people are out and about. There are very few places in Dallas outside of malls. I had better luck in Denver. Boulder has an interesting area with lots of people. I don't live near any of those cities anymore. Now I am looking for locations in/near Memphis, TN. These are what I consider street; my nerves were on edge for every one of them, being a bashful sort.
