Maybe just my monitor. I could not see a zone 0. Not that's mandatory either. I just like an "achoring black".
You're right, looking at the histogram there's no zone 0, but that's the way my Nikon Coolscan treat the negative. Later when PP, I can adjust the level to suit my taste. However personally I do not prefer not the have "totally black" in my photos, just close to that is enough for me: still retaining shadow details but give the deep black impression at the same time.

Personally, I prefer the second shot, though I don't know if it's the Summaron. It curtainly looks sharper and has more shadow detail, but that could be the printing/scanning. I think that both pictures could benefit from deeper blacks.
I agree the second one looks just a bit sharper. I see nothing wrong with the tonality, though. They are both great in that respect!
I personally totally forgot which one was shot by which lens.
Only when I recalled that Erik Van Straten once said that the Summaron's actually focal lengths is 38mm, a bit narrower than other 35mms.
Based on that aspect, the later one (number 44) was shot by the Summicron IV, and well, that's also fit my conclusion that the Summicron IV is sharper than the Summaron, right at f/2.8
When stopped down to 5.6, I see no difference. Links below for your information
P/S: the scans are straight out of the scanner, with same settings and in the same rolls. I assume that the scanner treated both negatives the
same ways.

Looking forward to see more work with the Summaron Trung!
Still my fave walkaround lens. And at 2.8 I found it different enough compared to my other 2 35s (lux pre and cron asph).

PS: I can't remember which f-stop I use here
I think this time I will keep the Summaron longer that last time.
Let's see how it treats me.
My current photos posted in "Hanoi viewed through Leica M" threat were shot by the Summaron by the way.

If you need one in fantastic condition, check out my Ebay auction (item 282712297437), which ends on Sunday.
Fantastic lens, just not my preferred focal length.

This thread made me get a Summaron a while ago. My 'cron rigid has been on a lot lately... but I think I'll put the Summaron on tomorrow and keep it there for a few weeks! Fantastic photos everyone!

35mm f/2,8 SUMMARON: Legendary Lens?
35mm f/2,8 SUMMARON: Legendary Lens?
This is a pdf of an LHSA Viewfinder article by Seth Rosner, from 2005, which compares the 35/2 version 1 Summicron 8 element, the 35/2.8 Summaron, and the 35/2 Summicron V4 "bokeh king."
It was linked a few years ago here, but I can't seem to locate the file on rff so I thought I'd post it again.

Very cool! Thanks for the article.
I have the goggled version of the summaron. Love the lens, but the goggles aren't very "aerodynamic".

I love my copy of the Summaron.
I think I got it around 2009 and indeed the price doubled in the meantime.
Great little lens for walkarounds and it is a great portrait lens too, get closer to your subject and shot wide open.

If you are OK with f2.8 lens, then many of them are legendary. I have legendary BK. It was compared to Crons as well. In 2008 by one Italian photographer. Very impressive document.

I used an f2 summicron (many versions) over decades. I prefer the character of the summaron 2.8 (LTM with an adapter) & the incredible build quality (brass rather than aluminum). Lovely lens..... summaron & SBL00 are a great combo for quick photography.
