Mine came today.
Front focus is 1-1.5 cm on 0.8m.
Two at f2.
One at f2.8.
Focusing, taking on infinity is fine. It came unmodified. Framing with 50mm framelines is not easy for me on M-E.

Hmm, never noticed front focus on mine -- now I'll have to check....
I had mine modified to bring up 35mm frame lines, milled for 6-bit coding and replaced the original focus tab with a v3-Summicron-style tab. Love this lens....

BTW, the Nikon HN-N101 hood (from the 10mm f/2.8 lens for the Nikon 1 camera) makes the 40mm M-Rokkor very compact, with virtually no intrusion into the viewfinder:

that's a nice little compact hood solution.
who did the custom focus tab modification for you? is that an original leica tab?

Don Goldberg did all the modifications. Pretty sure it's a generic tab, not a Leica part.

Nice shot and really compact and quick to use outfit Lynn. I had a 40/2 Summicron but found the tab and aperture rings too close for my large mitts. That Leica-type focus tab as shown above would be better. The lens really bites a couple of stops down as you've shown. You'll have to show it off to me next time I'm in Sydney.

Fond of the 40 M-Rokkor, as it has given me some memorable images.

thank you John.
watching the sun rising over these volcanoes was most spectacular and memorable!
The "Bromo", the crater at the lower left permanently releasing steam gives name to this national park.
The volcano in the center is called "Semeru" and was "puffing" out smoke now and then, the mushroom "cloud" on top of it.
a while later, sun rising and another "puff"

Great find at € 20.
I use the 40'ies rubber cap on M-Rokkor 28mm ; I have a metal chinese 40.5 mm cap for the 40mm). This is much more slick. After all, I only need to prevent my fingers to touch the glass.
And searching for it, I saw a little set from polaroid for that same Nikkor 10mm lens where the "sun cap" comes from: UV filter, polarisatie filter en een ND9 filter. At € 30 a great deal too.
My 40mm is spot-on at all distances, also wide open. I bought it at the Leica Beaumarchais in Paris.

A showcase for my bokeh :
even though sometimes with complex backgrounds it gets a bit swirly.
And one for the image quality, a Picasso sculpture (see the original)
