Glad to see this thread chugging along. I’m still shooting my Minolta M-Rokkor 40mm f2.0 CLE, which I purchased from Joe (Back Alley) years ago now; shout out to Joe! I filed down the flange on my sample so it brings up the 35mm framelines on M cameras; this works particularly well with the M6 classic, which has “tighter” 35mm framelines than, say, an M2, and which correspond very well to the 40mm field of view from about 10 feet on. And, of course, you can easily frame with an M3, using the entire vf.

Here are a few recent photos with the Rokkor 40:

I appreciate the 40mm field of view. I shoot 40s a lot and use 40mm lenses like a tighter 35. Since acquiring the little Rokkor 40, I’ve picked up a couple of CV Nokton 40/1.4 lenses, the amazing and tiny Heliar 40/2.8 in LTM, and the Ultron 40/2 for my Nikon kit. I still keep coming back to the Rokkor, however. There’s something special about the way that lens draws. It’s been noted that its lens design is very close to the version 3 Summicron 35.

For travel, I’ve come around to this three lens kit: 28, 40, and 75.

Thanks for posting Steve.
I also find that the 35 framelines on the m6 are a perfect match for the rokkor
Mine isn’t filed down but I do lock the frame line lever with some tape to brings up the 35 view.
a have an m6 classic from 86 so this is what I call my 80s combo
Cheers

Nice to see this old thread still chugging along, and all the great photos being posted!

I can't remember when, but I sold off my 40mm lenses when I bought the SMC-Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Special some years ago. It's an LTM lens, so I fit it with a 35 mm LTM to M-Bayonet mount adapter to get 35mm frame lines (and remember to shoot 'tight') with the M4-2 or M6 TTL 0.85x, and I fit the Visoflex 020 when I'm using it on the M10-R or M10 Monochrom for more precise framing. It's a bulkier lens than the M-Rokkor or Summicron-C 40, but it does have a built-in lens hood, and I loved the performance of the SMC-Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Limited when I had that for Pentax DSLR cameras: it's the exact same optical design in LTM mount, and performs exactly the same.

It's a little bulky to use on the Leica IIIc, but fits any of the M bodies with nice balance and feel.

Here it is fitted to the digital Leica CL that I had when I first bought it:

Thanks for posting G and happy to see you’re still active on RFF!

Over the years I kinda realised I can’t deal with “big lens”, a compact walk around kit is all I really need.

M6 + m-rokkor 40 is just about the perfect compact combo

Or an m2 + summaron 🙂

Cheers
g.
