Don't really know if I trust these parts as being original Leica Black Painted items.......by any rate they are TWICE the cost of what the part should be and they offer NO RETURNS! , so I really don't think something like this is worth the risk of spending $60+ on it.............and the style of paint texture and sheen are different from the Black Paint used on Leica M3's to the LHSA M6's.
(if you look really close on the part it seems less than perfect paintwise as well)

I am thinking of just staying with the factory chrome ring now 😉

this part I bought myself and have fitted it to my black paint M3 DS, along with the original spare part top plate that I found.

There's no difference in paint quality to be seen.

Also bought the advance lever, the accessory shoe and the speed dial from this seller, all are identical in paint to the original spare-part top plate.

EDIT: on the no-returns issue, I bought the wrong type rewind knob and it would not fit. As a result the badly repainted rewind knob is still on the camera, but I had trouble whatsoever to sell the part I could not use online! So maybe that is no big issue in the end.

Anyhow, your camera is real goodlooking as it is already, thought I'd just let you know where I found my parts!

I think that I'm going to stay with the original Chome ring, but like I said before I'll do the MP anti-flare module and the "Black Out" film counter.......just have to get a couple of paid shoots together and then wait till after I'm doing with the Vintage Porsche shoot in September and then send the camera and parts to Don at DAG.......might take like 30 days or more, I have heard his turn-around latley has been set back, he's always swamped with work.

I'm not going with Leica NJ while their labor costs are much much higher than DAG's and he will have both parts needed so it's not a big deal, I'd rather save $80 to $100 or so, his work is supposed to be some of the finest in the business and that job is a real small one, I;m sure only a few hours work.

Youxin normally does work on my LTM's, but he himself told me the "Black Out" counter is a tricky proceddure, so he'd pass on doing that.......

I don't know if you can delete masks/frames from a Viewfinder? But, I never will use the 75mm lens, so maybe that's an idea too? Make it simple like the M6J 0.85 finder was, which was only the 35-50-90-135 frames ~ all I'll ever use and uncluttered looking.

FYI, not all shutter button collars (or surrounds or whatever the term is) are the same. Some have more threads than others. I found this out when I did a paint batch of several cameras, and assumed they were all the same...until I had one left and it didn't fit a camera that needed to ship!
 
Frames can be deleted/masked. DAG can do that for you. I had a .85 M7 that was masked to show only 35, 50, and 90 framelines. Sold it after the ala carte M7 arrived.

Yep, then I'll mask out the 75mm frame.........while I won't ever be using that one and the 50mm frame will then be alone and uncluttered 🙂

Finally heard back from Leica NJ. I sent in my M7 for something un-related, and requested the black painted counter disc. Spring Housing was required as well as another small part. Some loctite is necessary too. Total charged to me--$20.00! Must be the warranty that is covering the install. David Elwell said they would have to do a CLA once the top cover comes off. I'm glad you brought up the black frame counter disc--just what my M7 needed 😉

Tom, if you want I can forward a schematic of the black disc and other parts required to get the job done.

That sounds great....I still need to do the "Black Out" counter, add the MP anti-flare module and also mask out the 75mm frame, which I'll have DAG do sometime, I don't have a warranty on the LHSA camera anymore, Leica NJ. told me it was 1 year over experation (11 years) and that they wouldn't honor a warranty.

Yeah, it seems that all the LHSA 0.85's I've seen offered recently have been used and have rub marks on the side paint above the lugs 🙁

I was very lucky to find mine was N.O.S. NEVER USED/NIB sitting on a shelve with a camera dealer (11 years) and I didn't put a roll in it till I got my factory Leica case for it, it has had only one roll of film through it at this time..........

I haven't been shooting too much this past few months, been selling more cameras then shooting with them *sigh*

Beware the ER case

I used one for a brief period on my TTL .85 as it and a 50 Summicron were my travel companion. It will create a rub in the finish on the high deck on the left side that was very noticeable on the black chrome finish of my body. I imagine it could be worse on the BP finish. In my case a piece of tape on the contact spot helped, but in your case that would be like throwing a trenchcoat on a swimsuit model.🙂

Just an FYI...
 
I really wanted the LHSA with the .85 finder! But I decided to go cheap 🙂 and get a user MP .72 - then I realized I really would like to have a BP lens. So I found a Hex UC 35mm .

I don't know how I would feel about getting scratches on a beautiful camera like yours Tom, mine already has marks so I don't even have to worry about a case... 🙂

I think that's b/c the case was too small........I went to like 3 Leica dealers and also asked questions here and it seems that many folks used the ER case that was pre TTL?

The long nose case I use now, has some serious room for the top plate, I had serious problems with a normal M6 case and after having it only 2 days I sent it back for a refund, you have to use a modern post 1998 TTL case for all the newer cameras, I guess they call these cases the M7 or MP cases now.

I really haven't used my camera now but once.....not even the second rolls through and I'm using the half case mostly without snapping it shut.

How's that 35 shoot? Looks very compact and also matches up well with the BP camera 🙂

I'm looking for another 35 with a vintage signature, I use now a Canon f1.5/35 and a f3.5/35 Elmar, but maybe just one more 35mm would do.......

I like the signature of the VC Ultron f1.7/35, but they are discontinued and starting to get a following.

Can someone please tell me if the script on the top plate of the LHSA M6 is engraved or is it painted on? I have a Japan limited one and the script is engraved.

I'm asking because there seems to be one or two of these special M6 in Mapcamera. One of them is something called NSH. What the heck is an M6 NSH???

Btw, tonight I saw this tall gaijin bloke in Mapcamera taking pics of the M6 specials. Didn't see him buy one though. He was carrying an A&A bag and took pics with his iPhone I think.

You know, that spot where the M6 specials are used to be where the placed the MPs. But now, you can hardly get any MPs. There are only 2 there. But there used to be like 10 at a time.
