How about the person touching the package when delivering or those that loaded the trucks? I guy could cough on it right before handing it to you. The outside box is certainly capable of having the virus for 24 hours.
No question about those vectors. Perhaps a spray bottle with 91% alcohol over every surface, keep it damp for about 30 seconds.
I was thinking that Joe was worried about packing and the items he's moving along to their new home.
I just got my first New-2-Me camera last week and left it to sit for a few days (made my wife nuts).

To be honest when I read and see that people worry so much about infection from surfaces (which is so easy to manage by washing hands), I worry they might not understand and minimize the much larger risk: exposure to people - infection by aerosol or droplets. Please keep in mind that likelihood of an infection doesn't just rise in a linear fashion with the size of a group of people, it multiplies with each additional person.
But of course be cautious with all things, especially if you or people around you are vulnerable!

I've sold quite a bit of stuff lately on Kijiji. If anything, I've had an easier time (quick sales at good prices) than ever before...

An update from my local camera store - he continues to shift cameras like there is no tomorrow, so much so he's almost cleaned out of everything. Fortunately he'd sent off a load of kit to be serviced just before lock down which is now returning, but sales are off the chart. He's genuinely wondering why he bothers with a shop now. His film sales are also off the charts.
So, mixed picture, but things sell. Just do a good description and don't over-price.

Good heavens, Charles! Last time I was in his shop (probably about four or five months ago, he had a veritable multitude of cameras... of almost every conceivable size and type.
I'm amazed that he's now almost cleaned out.

Apologies, Charles - I've not heard that expression. Would you mind explaining to this 'unknowing fool'?

It's one I picked up some years ago from a rather dodgy antiques dealer. The stock of curios etc that are priced not to be sold (or even, not even priced).

Ah, thanks. Once explained, it seems rather obvious!

By and large, I've bought and sold quite a number of things over the past 11 weeks. Nothing has been an issue, other than the order of bespoke custom carbon bicycle rims from China. That posed a problem only in shipping, since (at least for a time) 85-90% of all the air-freight from China had been halted for one or another reason. It cost an extra $100 and two weeks for the rims to be delivered as a consequence.
Beyond that, USPS, FedEx, DHL, and UPS transport of goods has not been any issue. I've taken reasonable precautions in packaging and receiving packages, and no one in the house has been ill.

I bought a lens from KEH. When it came, I wiped it with 99% isopropanol and started using it. Nothing bad happened.

We spray the parcel with sanitizer and then wipe it down with a paper towel and let it sit for a few minutes. We don’t do that with the contents though. Hmmm.

Yes, that would be job 1.
For the record I purchased a screw mount camera from a Japanese seller 2 months ago. After six weeks the seller had the camera returned to him and I was ready to cancel the purchase. he told me that they had luck with Yamato transportation and wanted to give it a try. It came 8 days later.

For things that we can, we set it in the corner of the entry and let it set for three days. And something that has been in transit for three days or more, we'll open the package, toss ithe packaging, and wash our hands well.

What are you thinking of selling and why? Maybe we can help!
