I did not even consider a Canon lens when I needed a 50mm ltm. The Voigtlander Nokton f1.5 is inexpensive brand new. Still, I fugured I'd eventually find a cheap Canon ltm lens in a thrift store. Turns out all I ever see are M42 lenses, and Canon, Minolta and Zuiko 50's, plus lots of old junk zooms.

I just commented to a friend as to how high the bidding went. I think this blog and Photo.net, more and more people are getting back to rangefinders and enjoying it. More people out there are wanting these rare lenses that are probably no better that regular lenses. The children of these collectors will be selling the lenses after the photographers can no longer see and sell the lenses for a lot less.

I am glad that I have been only getting vintage quality lenses. Modern lenses I always have the chance to buy if I wanted to. The older style heavy [read "high quality craftmanship and materials"] lenses are very pleasing to use and to admire.
I now have about twenty 50mm RF lenses. The Canon 50/1.5 and the Nikkor 50/2 are my latest acquisitions of LTM lenses. I got both in shiny chrome. The Canon 50/1.4 is no slouch, and it still can be bought for a reasonable price. For quite some time, photographers here have been "hinting" that they preferred the look of the images from the Canon 50/1.5 over those from the Canon 50/1.4. Some would say that the images looked "cooler" with the 50/1.4. Nobody really spoke out against the 50/1.4 because there isn't much to complain about for this great lens. The collecting factor must have taken over the market value of the 50/1.5. I do not view the Canon 50/1.5 to be better [however you define the word "better"] than a Zeiss Jena 50mm/1.5 or Zeiss Opton 50/1.5.

The Canon 50/1.4 is quite special in that it is the only 6 element fast 50 that I know off.
A hidden quality compared to the magnetic attraction beam to Sonnars that we built on RFF out over the last few years, Raid.

WOW! Mine is near perfect glass and cost 1/10th what this one did!
The Canon 50/1.5 is a great SOnnar lens, very faithful to the original in terms of rendering and Bokeh. It is heavily made. BUT: A good J-3 is as good optically and cost a LOT less, even with a CLA and collimation for the Leica. It is not as heavily made, but I've never had a problem with the lighter materials. Both lenses can pick up some slight "slop" in the focus. The Canon suffers from haze from lubricants more than the J-3.
But if someone wants to pay over $700 for one, more power to them!

I think that there is a "RFF Price", regardless of ebay prices. A Summicron 35mm lens usually costs twice as much with "RFF Dollars" than a Canon 50/1.5 ....

I know I just dont want to give up my 50/1.5 I like it so much, but its my only lens and the only other lens I want is a 35mm cron and with a bank account with less than $30 in it I cant offset the price difference.

At least that's what it used to be in the good old times ....

I just dont have the heart to sell it on evilbay, I really like this lens and if I sell it I know ill want another 50 soon. Ill probably just hold on to it and wait till I have some cashflow to buy a nice 35

Yes, this is a good approach to your little "problem". Do not sell a lens you cannot replace. Do not create for yourself another problem. Use GAS-EX; take photos. While Confucius did not say this piece of wisdom, if he had been a RFF member, he might has said so.

Btw I hope I didnt come off like I was trying to rip rff members off, because that was not my intention. I only have one lens so any time without it is time not shooting, Ive seen V3 crons go for 600 in fine shape so for a trade its not too bad, not great, but im poor as hell.

But, I have been more selective about the stuff I do buy. It's focused collection now. A nice bunch of old style 50's is what I want, preferably all Sonnars.
