The "unbelievable $710 Canon 50/1.5" lens has arrived in only 2 days from Japan to Croatia and it is up to my best expectations. Mint and clean, shiny and smooth, there is no superfluous lubricant on the blades, it is in much better condition than described...
Sorry, this one is not for sale on RFF! 🙂

Beautiful quality to the shots Ivan, nice OOF areas as usual from that Sonnar type lens.

I also am fond of my Canon 50/f1.5 lens,

But I cannot help noticing how very similar that look is from what we get from our J-3s( another Sonnar type lens), as seen on yesterdays thread that Brian Sweeney started.

Yes, I know, I have J-3 too. But it is difficult to get in focus those beasts. Like in CZJ case, the alloy barrel is shabby and too soft.
Soviet lenses in Contax mount for Kiev are somewhat better.
You can fix them, but after several days of serious fieldwork use they are off again.

I will post some J-3 shots on the new thread now.

I currently have two Canon 50/1.5's, and sold a third. Also Have a Canon 50/.95, 50/1.2, 50.1.4, 50/1.8, 50/2.8, 35/2, 35/2.8, 85/2, 135/3.5. A wobble can develop in the focus mount, due to the design. I've torn some of them apart and tightened up things. BUT: all of these old mechanical lenses have achilles heels.

The J-3's can pick up play in the focus that is "most annoying" if the groove that the guide pins is too wide. It does not affect the focus as the cam and optics move together. Some of the J-3's have too much play in the helical, and require heavy grease. BUT: I've used a 1959 J-3 for about 5 years now that has never picked up a problem after rebuilding it. I just rebuilt a 1953 J-3 that is as good as the Zeiss LTM's.

Now the prices are getting back to normal!
A low price and I noticed in the body of the ad it lists maximum aperture is 1.4, not 1.5, although all the copy speaks to the 1.5 Sonnar. The photo of the lens doesn't show the from markings... curious.

Have been watching the auction but didn't bother to bid.
I am sure the seller is from RFF as well 😀

He blocked me.
I had asked him for a buy it now of $300 the day the auction started.
His answer was "what ??"
he blocked my snipe of $350

Wheww, glad that last one was ended early - I had my $528 bid scheduled! I didn't realize the prices had dropped so quickly! 😀

I guess it would have served me right for letting hype get tpo me! I really don't need 6 50's!
