Vacation: Which camera & lens will/did you take

on my recent month long trip to the philippines I took a Pentax K-7 with 15 f4, 43 f1.9, 77 f1.8. along with a Pentax Spotmatic and 55 f1.8. lessons learned. when I return next year I will take a Leica D-Lux5 and the bessa R3a with 50 f2.

Just back from Kauai. X100.. Gave up on film cameras. I was concerned about bringing back exposed film. BTW.. X100 worked out great.

I just went through this on Saturday. We were packing for Cape Cod and I was considering an Mamiya 7 ii kit, or M3 with a couple of lenses - I felt I would skip digital this trip.

In the end, I decided that since it was a family trip I would go with my TVS III alone (though I have my phone camera with me). No regrets and no worries. P&Ss are great for family snaps!

If course if were going to Alaska it would be a different story I think!

I got to spend two weeks in the Rocky Mountains in July. Since we drove I took a bunch of cameras including two M6's but mostly used a IIIc just back from Sherry Krauter with the 50mm Elmar and a Nikkor 35mm f2,5 with a Nikon zoom finder. Pack Light, Have Fun. Joe

I love these theads! Fascinating to see what others do. I returned at the end of July from three weeks in Scandinavia and England. I took an M2 w/ a CV Skopar 50/2.5 and a Canon 35/1.8, and a Bessa T w/ a CV 25/4. Perfect kit for this trip! Used the Bessa and 25 mainly indoors; used the 35 mainly for street photos, and the 50 for street photos and landscapes. Here's a group portrait of the kit:

Pending vacation will see an XPan and a Hasselblad 500c.

I once went to China and brought a Crown Graphic and a DSLR! Not sure what I was thinking but those 4x5 negs are well worth it.

Bingley, I was always curious - how do you change film on a Leica M with that half case in the way? Don't you have to remove that, *then* remove the bottom plate for each roll of film?
Not sure because I've never used one...just curious.

To Belarus took Mamiya Press flattop w/65/6.3, Olypus Stylus Epic, Nikon and Canon digital P&S's. Used only the Mamiya in B&W and the Canon digital P&S.

I took the Mamiya because I wanted to make some large enlargements - otherwise it would have been my Leica IIIf. The Domke 803 gets too heavy with both the Mamiya and the Leica in the bag.

Easy. When we finally head up to the mountains in October for cooler air and fall color, I will just grab the Leica bag (Billingham Pro) with the M3 and the R4 both with 50mm lenses. Best of both worlds with TriX and color film.:)

For urban travel I usually take a RF with a fast 50mm and a 28mm in either M or Nikon/Zeiss mounts. The lens maker depends on the lens de journey. The cameras are either a Zeiss Ikon or a SP.

M9 with Konica Hexanon 50mm 2.4 and VC 75mm 2.5, Noblex 6/150 UX for panoramas and a Canon WP-1 for out in the water.

For Vietnam recently I took 2 GF1 bodies and 7-14,14-45,45-200. Leicas stayed at home due to insurance limitations, and under instruction from the domestic management that this was not going to be a photographic trip. I used the 14 -14 most of all.

I'm off to SE Asia in a week, taking the M4-P for B&W and M8 for colour, with the 15/4.5, 35/2 & 90/4.

I figure that gives me a good spread of focal lengths (esp. taking into consideration the crop factor of the M8) for pretty much any situation, but also gives me few options, meaning I focus on just getting the shot instead of changing lens etc

Drove to the Rockies early June this year. Took D700, 24-85 afs, 70-300 vr, 90 macro and a tele converter.

Panasonic GH-1 with 20/1.7, and Konica Hexar RF with Summicron 35/2 v1.

On second day of vacation, a freak boating accident landed the GH-1 in the water. So the remaining two weeks were 100% film, shot with one lens only. Just back the results -- very pleased indeed.

What Vicko said, Colin. I slip the case off and into a pocket, then do the film change. It's pretty quick, although I almost lost the half case in the British Museum on this trip when it slipped out of my pocket. I like using the half case b/c of the little grip built in, so I don't mind it being in the way... :)

Same here. I know there are people who like to go naked. Me, well I appreciate protection for such a nice camera as my M3, it is more comfortable in use and no problem to slip it off and change film...what, maybe 5 seconds?

Also have one on my mint R4 for the same reason. Works well for me especially with documentary work, I mean, what am I shooting? A Nikon F5 or a 20 fps digital camera for sports action? Hardly.:p

To Seattle, took M8 plus Elmarit 28, Lux 50, and Planar 80. Worked fine. As usual, though, could have left the Lux at home, as a 50 with 1.33 crop does not work that well for me.
