That's true, his shots are indeed fantastic as well, it's just that Simon has been posting more actively lately. I must say that both his' and Simon's shots gave me that little extra push into getting the 1.2 🙂

This is a decent lens but the barrel distortion is slightly distracting... A lot of people might not notice it but I'm just one of those barrel distortion haters.

I don't see what the fuss is about, it's like complaining that Biogons aren't fast enough. Show me another 35mm fast lens that is any better. The Summilux ASPH is very similar in this respect and it has the (supposed) reputation as being the 'greatest' fast 35mm.

If people want a perfectly corrected 35mm lens, buy a Biogon or Biogon-C.

I am with GSNfan in this instance, Simon's picture (the public transport window/symmetry one) is great! But in this specific case the barrel distortion is really noticeable. But leicashot is also right, first of all there is no other 35mm lens with that speed, and all the others (f1.4) have weak points of their own.

Now I really, really love the pictures I have seen so far from the 1.2 Nokton in this thread and others. And there are quite a few where I have to say, without reservation, that they could not have been pulled off with a slower lens, or let's say, with a f2 lens.
This instance, this particular picture, I am going out on a limb and say, heck: that would have worked with an f2 lens, too. (I know, Simon recalls shooting f1.2 1/15 @1600). I'd go further out and say it would have been possible with an f2.8 and 1/8th of a second 🙂 (you can tell my lens ain't faster than that, obviously ;-))

But don't get me wrong, do I ever wish for more speed in ragged light. Hell yes! Certainly for taking pictures of people, with an f2.8 lens you run into 1/8 of a second fast, and that is a serious limitation. 1/30 at f1.4 would be way more comfortable.

Ah, and while I am on a roll, I'll repeat what I have said in another thread: I think Simon's work is really, really strong. Some of your best pictures are on a par with, say, some of Richard Kalvar's pictures in "Earthlings", I think. Except you have a stronger sense/eye for symmetry and geometry. (And for that, the 1.2 Nokton might not be the best tool in the shed. But hey, if I owned the 1.2 Nokton and a slower 35, and were to walk around after nightfall, as was the case with this picture: I would have mounted the Nokton, too. It's a no brainer.)
