wow, thanks for all the kind words. that all sounds mighty complicated, I use this lens because 1) with 400asa film it keeps me shooting all day and night no matter where no matter when 2) it does a very good job at that and 3) I could afford it (~500€ in like new condition when I bought it almost 2 years ago). I do have two other 35mm lenses, a color-skopar 35mm f2.5 pII which is broken at the moment and a 35mm f3.5 summaron, which is a fine lens but a little slow and tricky to use in the wrong lighting situations (low contrast and easy flare).
"whatever works" they say, and this works for me =)

Hot diggity, this is a sweet lens. Plenty more to come, I'm sure!

Interesting picture...and people complain about it's distortion...right

The best camera is one that still works!
There's not a lot in that image aside from the fluros at the top to show it really!
It's interesting ... I've just realised that since I sold my M8 a few months ago I haven't used my Nokton once. On the M8 it was heaven and it gave me my favourite focal length with the crop.

Keith that image has plenty to indicate it's distortion, or lack of. Leading lines, straight horizon and straight edged products out along the sides of the frame.

There's really only slight barrel distortion though and you can see it in the line of the fluro at the top ... the rest of the image does look fine though I agree.
I have a Zuiko 50mm that has more barrel distortion than anything I've ever used!

I think it's good but what with the sepia toning?

Thanks....I have no idea what's up with the toning...I dropped the roll of xp2 off at a different lab and this is what I got back......it is the last time I ever go there....I watched the lady cut my negatives and the way she handled my negatives made me angry.....finger prints everywhere......I don't think she really knew what she was doing.....
oh well you live and learn....and this roll was nothing special, just some random stuff from around my neighborhood...I wanted to "try" a different lab...now I know it sucks
these are from the same roll
I think I need to learn some photoshop skills.......I suck at photoshop, but put me in a darkroom and I know what I am doing.....
cheers, michael

Actually try scanning it again, I used XP2 a long time ago but under some software the automatic scanning will turn it sepia, I think Vuescan will put it correct, or just convert to Grayscale in PS very simple

thanks....I will give it a try....unfortunately, I did not scan it, I had the lab scan it.....I will scan it at home and see what happens.....thanks again...

michael, probably it's due to the film base tone, the lab scanner didn't consider it as being a grayscale film. converting it to grayscale on photoshop will fix it, no need to rescan, I think.

Loving what I'm seeing from this lens! I just sold my ASPH Cron to order The Beast, and am anxiously awaiting it

A good move. The Cron ASPH is a nice solid performing lens but I never got excited about it's rendering, not like the Nokton. The speed will also come in handy. Good luck with it.

I feel the same way, very contrasty too, more so than I would've liked. With the speed and the way the Nokton renders, Im really looking forward to it, and think it'll join the 50 1.5 nicely. Plus I have a 40 Cron if I ever want a change of pace for some reason, but as long as everything works out with the Nokton (it's new from Gandy so Im hoping so), I think the 40 and the 50 will be seeing a lot more shelf time.A good move.
