Absolutely my favorite thread on RFF, nothing else even comes close!!!

I agree, it has the best combination of quality photos mixed with nice representation of the 35/1.2's character.

here's another couple from me: both zeiss ikon + nokton 35mm f1.2 @ 1.2 + provia 400x +2 stops. The bottom one is just as-scanned (so the blacks are a bit grey), the top one I did some minor levels.

Even though i know I shouldn't buy this lens because I have the 35 lux asph, pre asph, and a vIV 'cron I still want it badly! Your images aren't helping my situation!

I briefly owned a Nokton 35/1.2 just before I sold off all my RF film gear, Kristian, and I just loved it. Even more than the 1st version Aspherical Summilux 35 I owned. It has a bit of that Mandler look of "just right" flaws at full aperture that I love. M8.2 used prices are coming down and having a digital mount for the Nokton is getting mighty tempting...! 😱

I've also owned the original ASPHERICAL Lux and used the new ASPH FLE and this is still my favorite fast 35mm. It punches well above it's weight and size, pardon the pun.

I hate to be repetitive, but damn....... i just love this photo. My wife also pointed out something that I didn't notice right away. She loves how she is pressing her fingers into her upper arm and indenting the skin.

Thanks Joe and good observation which I only noticed last week myself. Funny enough, based on that observation one could think that it's windy and cold, but it was shot in a tobacco field in Indonesia and it was very hot.

Her mood at the time was somber, still and peaceful. I just asked her why she pressed her hand on her arm and she simply cannot explain it. "I just did it, not sure why" she explained.

No doubt the Summilux ASPH was a marvelous lens, but for me the 35/1.2 Nokton is magic, as well as marvelous. Your M9 image of the young lady in the Indonesian tobacco field likely wouldn't be so compelling if made with another lens. I hope this next one is as good as your first one. 😎

I've owned this lens 3 times now and only ever sold due to it's size, which I've now come to be comfortable with, maybe after using the Noct so often.

It truly is a gem and if VC made discontinued it, it would probably eventually fetch as much as the Lux ASPH. Rarity aside, it IS that good, I find myself struggling to take advantage of it's qualities, forcing me to up my photography.

Here are a couple from my M2 and the Nokton, on Efke 25. Developed in Rodinal 1+125, stand 1hr.

I like the images from the lens, but mine seems to backfocus a touch, on both my M8 and M2. Too bad.

Nice looks, I dig round trucks. What did you do to affect the tonality, the shift to bluish/cool? They don't look to have been done as gray scale. Did you scan as a color neg and adjust color levels?

Thanks. I like old vehicles with "personality". This truck is loaded with it.

The scans have been "split-toned" or "duotoned". Highlights are a warmer color and shadows a cooler one.

Here is my process: I scan the B&W negs in SilverFast setup for color negative. I take the resulting TIFFs into Photoshop Elements and remove the color and adjust levels. Then I import into Aperture. From Aperture I launch into Nik Silver Efex Pro and do the split-toning. This sounds like a lot of steps, but really isn't too bad. I use keyboard shortcuts for a lot of it.

I could do the split-toning in Photoshop but I like Silver Efex' controls, which are specific to split-toning, and the fact that I can save a combination of settings as a favorite. That saves me a lot of time during final toning and adjustment.

you can use silver efex as a plugin in photoshop, works like a filter (and applies itself automatically in a new layer). 🙂
