I always make sure that I got some spare rolls in the fridge ... just in case 😀
And I rarely buy film at regular shops for regular prices. I keep my eyes open and sometimes there's somebody who sells 30 expired rolls for 1/2 or 1/3 the usual retail price ...

I have about 300 rolls of Kodak Ultramax that I picked up cheaply from a supermarket that was about to throw it out because it had passed the expiry date :bang:. I had to buy a small freezer to store it in but even including the cost of the freezer it worked out at about $1.30 a roll. Still a bargain in my book. I'm just gutted that I didn't get there in time to buy the rest before they threw it out, I'm sure I could have got it for next to nothing.

I've also got about 60 rolls of assorted balck & white but I'm not sure what varieties and numbers of each.

I won't need to buy any film for a while

Student budget means I've only got 2 HP5 35mm films, but waiting for delivery of 20x Rollei Retro 100 on special offer. As for colour, got goodness knows how many Ektachrome and Elite Chrome for my cross processing Lomo outings. Also got 12 rolls of slightly out-of-date Kodachrome 24exp and 3 fresh 36exp ones which I'm looking forward to putting to use before the end of this year.

Oh, all sorts of stuff (to the occasional irritation of Galfriend):

- Kodak Portra 400NC: 1 roll left(!)
- Kodak Portra 160NC: 5 rolls (kind of low for me)
- Kodak Ektar 100: 2 rolls
- Kodak BW400NC: 6 rolls (usually try to have about 15-20 at hand)
- Konica Impresa 50: 3 rolls (yes, need to use it soon, for my Impresa-versus-Ektar Smackdown: stay tuned)
- Fuji Reala 100: 1

This doesn't count the 1/3 remaining box of Ilford HP5+ I'm gradually running through...(not refrigerated, much to Galfriend's eternal satisfaction)

Indeed! I rationalize it by telling myself I'm engaged in a bit of slow motion decisionmaking to pick one or two films to stick with. So far, Ektar 100 is in, probably Acros 100, too. No b&w 400 has knocked my socks off, yet. Forgot to mention, though, there's also Neopan 400 in the fridge. Maybe that will.

Playing with... umm, testing, film will resume when it stops being so blinkin' cold.

In some ways film is worse than gear IMO ... at least all cameras operate by a set of standards involving shutter speeds and f stops, so if you understand one you generally understand them all ... I might have to exclude FSU's here though! 😛

About Neopan 400 ... when I switched to it initially I could not come to terms with it and was prepared to give up after ten or so rolls and sell what I had left through the forum classifieds. Then it all fell into place and it's now my favourite black and white film of all time ... I love it, especially pushed a stop or two.

Lately I've been developing it in Rodinal 1+50 @ 20deg for eight minutes with minimal agitation and really like the look of this combo! 🙂
