What have you just BOUGHT?

Pentax 85mm/1.9 M42. It will be mounted on my ES II that was recently reconditioned by Eric Hendrickson.

Should be a sweet combo.

Oh, and an eyecup for my Koni-Omega Rapid-M.

Super Takumar or SMC? The SMCs have a lug to allow open-aperture metering and AE on cameras like the ES II.

Konica 1

Konica 1

I have just acquired a very well preserved Konica 1 (MIOJ), with a Konisiroku Hexar 50/2.8 lens. The Camera is quirky, with a shutter cocking lever separate from the film advance, and a collapsing barrel lens. I have film in it now, and all seems to work well, if a bit slowly. Lots of fun! 😀

Yesterday, I had to go to the mall--wanted to see Ghost In The Shell--and after the movie I discovered there had been an antique show. Most of the dealers were packing up or gone but one woman was still hanging on and she had a modest display of cameras. 10 or 15 and not the usual obvious junk. So, I looked through them. Nothing much exciting though she desperately wanted to sell me a Konica Autoreflex T4. Which was broken and too expensive anyway.
So, I did spend $3 on two clear plastic Kodak filter cases and Leica Catalog #36.

The filter cases are pretty good I think and I have been accumulating a few of them. They are round and lock together and will hold up to a series VI size.

I'm calling it a win. 🙂

Just got these today. 35mm f2.5 in the 1.8 barrel and an 85mm f2 in black paint. Both are the last versions of the lenses. The 85 is marked with the Contax C (not the coated C). They came with a Contax IIIa black dial camera. Also a Nikon Varifocal finder in pretty good shape.
I'm using them with the Amedeo adapter.

Just bought a Centon PV23 Tripod from a charity shop. It needed a wash and the the head is stiff when it's tilted to 90 degrees and it's missing the quick release plate.

I've ordered a quick release plate from a seller who had pv23 tripod for sale.

Just bought a 'Medis' accessory rangefinder from ebay. Click on pic to see big version:

There was a bit of a 'scare' when I first looked through it as the image was rather 'cloudy'. I thought I may have to have it CLA'd, but as this would 4 or 5 times the cost of it, I wondered about having a go myself. Luckily after giving the lenses a wash using cotton buds the prolbem wasn't a problem any more. The focusing wheel does get in the way of my glasses though.

Forgot to mention that I've also just bought a 28mm skylight filter from SRB and 28mm lenshood for my Agfa Super Solinette. Both are going back: The filter 'cos it's "cloudy", (which is the same problem as the first 30mm skylight filter they sent) and the lenshood 'cos I think it's too narrow to not cause vignetting.

My deliveries from a couple NYC camera stores arrived today. I got some essential lens accessories:

The filters are (L to R):

  1. Leitz uva. It's clear for wet or other detrimental environs.
  2. Hoya 80A. It emphasizes haze and lightens the sky. Good for the Robert Adams look.
  3. B+W +4 diopter close-up. It's not rangefinder coupled, so I use a tape measure, or guess.
  4. B+W 090 MRC. This is a number 25 red filter. It darkens sky, lightens skin, and works with ir*.
  5. Metal lens cap. For storage on the filters, and for spare. I also got a plastic pinch type to lose.
When they are all screwed together, with the cap on the end, they clip inside the shade. I put that bundle and a tiny L-208 meter in a little drawstring bag, that slips into my pocket.

* Kinda.

I bought a quick release plate for my centon pv23 tripod. It was on a pv23 tripod on ebay.

I tried to fit it to my tripod earlier. Can't get the ruddy thing to fit.

EDIT: A couple of days later, I've seen a pic of the tripod head that the quick release plate came from. It's got a very narrow piece of plastic sticking into the plate space at the front. My tripod has got a wide piece of plastic sticking into the plate space on the front. Both tripods are Centon PV23s.

Why the blinkin' flip and ruddy blime do makers of things make tiny, pointless changes?

Those same deities smiled down on me last weekend at the local flea market.
I found a very very clean Olympus Zuiko OM 50mm f2 Macro for $0.10 per mm.

Picked up a Seagull 203 at a flea market yesterday. It had an unused roll of film in it. The self-timer had jammed the shutter; There was haze in the lens and the bellows were out of shape.
Cleared the jam, cleaned the lenses and pushed the bellows into their correct form.
Heard some nice things about this camera, so it's time to find out.

I bought a late-version Agfa Ambi Silette with 50mm and never-ready case and manual, 90mm lens and plastic case, lens hood and case, a yellow filter a UV filter, a proximeter 1 with case and manual and a Leica Metrophot 3 with incident thingy and 'shoe-protector' thingy, all for £101.99.

Here's a couple of pics:

As per usual click on the thumbs for bigger versions.

The condition of all of this stuff seems to be good. Not sure if the meter works properly but at least I can now say that I own a Leica!

The shutter is a bit odd though, as it doesn't want to fire when it's set to 1/15 and 1/8, I usually have to wind the lever a second or third time before the shutter fires.

Edit: It turns out that this the early version, from 1957. I don'ty understand why they made the changes to the 1958 version.

It started back in mid 2016, when I saw an advert for an affordable Focomat v35 with 50mm F/4.5 Focotar - except that the vendor didn't seem to understand that the 50mm lens needed a rare cam to be fitted to the enlarger. So I let it go, and it's still languishing on the "Used List". Then in late November 2016 I bought a Focomat V35 with colour head complete with WA Focotar. Turned out to be in a somewhat sad state, but perseverance (reassembling of the Focotar's elements, and adjustment of the focus mechanism) eventually had it working OK. Early 2017 I bought another V35 for its Variocontrast head - again this one needed serious attention in the focus area - and this one came from a published photographer!

I've plenty of SLR negatives, but I've not shot with Leica before, having used SLRs since 1958, and DSLRs more recently.
So, I've now bought an M6 with 50 F/2 DR Summicron, CV 35 F/1.4 Nokton, and two days ago a Leitz 90mm F/4 Elmar. I'm slowly getting my darkroom back into use, and hopefully will be able to find space for one of the V35s. Two nights ago I processed my first film in a decade.

Welcome to rangefinders, and welcome back to film!

Enjoy!

Cheers
