What have you resisted buying in 2010?

I bought quite some gear last year. But, I sold a lot of gear and other stuff to finance it. Good thing is that I did not buy any of it without consideration, and that I have no need to buy anything else now, not gear-wise nor GAS-wise.

Sold an M6 0.85 Classic, several lenses and a lot of other small stuff to finance: a 1938 IIIa with a SCNOO, a Leitz Wollensak Velostigmat 50/3.5, uncoated pre-war Elmar 90/4.0, CZJ Sonnar T 135/4.0 LTM, Mamiya C330f set with four lenses. This was also paid for with the profit from selling an M4, Summaron 35/2.8 and Summicron 50/2.0 that I had bought to sell on.

Will continue to buy gear that I can sell for a profit so that the revenues can be spent on gear and film that I do like to use.

A Vespa scooter
A track bicycle frame (for velodrome)
A set of bicycle wheels (I already have several extras)
A 35mm Summilux ASPH
A 50mm f/1.1 Nokton
A Nikon S3 with 50mm f/1.4
A Nikon S2 with 50mm f/2
A photo bag (but I did buy one this year, so I resisted a second)
A second CEYOO flash

surely, a multitude of other things...

At the start of the year I found myself unable to resist a hugely brassed Yashica FR with ML50/1.7 or a FX-D with ML 50/1.4

In the middle of the year I resisted selling my CV 15 and my Hexar RF. However I didn't resist selling my CV Heliar Classic 50/2

In the third quarter of the year I resisted an Olympus EP-1 and a one of those Panasonic LX3 thingy's.

Later in the year I couldn't resist buying a Bessa R2a, CV 50/2.5 or a Sigma DP1.

What follows the next blind corner, I wonder?

This year I successfully resisted the Leica S2. Big deal, eh? Since it's totally unaffordable, that makes it easier. The now-orderable Pentax 645D may be harder, as I have a bunch of lenses for it, but even it is not really in financial reach. The Leica is more attractive in several respects, though, so that should keep me resisting for a long time, or at least until used/demo/refurbished ones...😱

resisted buying a digilux 2...got an lc-1
resisted buying an m8...got an r-d1
resisted buying a nikkor 50/1.4...got a 50/2
resisted buying a canon 35/1.5...got a 35/1.8
resisted buying a canon 50/1.2...got a 50/1.4
resisted buying a canon 25/3.5...got a 28/2.8
resisting buying a canon 19/3.5...getting a ?

life's a compromise...but hell, i'm still having fun!

interesting!

interesting!

I also already have a NEX to M adapter, but no NEX yet, because the thought of getting a NEX and then waiting to use with an M lens is just unbearable!!

Every year, I stop myself from buying into the Leica club. Not because I don't think it's worth it, but because I'm the kind of gear lover that will end up receiving visits in the night from large men with blunt objects. Buying into the Leica thing would seal my fate for sure.

For the last two years, I haven't been turned on by anything enough to spend any real cash. For some reason, I kind of lost my photomojo in recent years and have been struggling to ignite the fire again.

Last year, I received a Canon S90 as a Christmas gift from my parents. I was thankful to have received such an excellent and handy fixed lens camera. No lenses to want for. That pretty much kept me away from danger for this year.

This week, however, things have taken a strong turn for what I hope is the better. I learned about the Sony NEX-5 recently and about its ability to mount a giant assortment of lenses via adapters. I immediately envisioned a compact camera with a nice little rangefinder lens attached. A little research later, I have purchased the lens and adapter and the body is in my nearest future.

I see 2011 being a tough year for my bank account but a strong year for my photography. Yes, I am inspired by my tools and find my creative fire burns more brightly when there are new tools in my bag.

Voigtlander 75/1.8 -- looks too cool but I definitely don't need one. Definitely.

That one I did NOT resist... It's great so far but I haven't had too much time to shoot with it. It's fantastic. It makes great images, I'm just trying to find a fit for it in my kit somewhere. I may just weld it to my M8 and be done... Just about a perfect portrait setup there.

So far this year, I've resisted buying a cable release for my Fuji GX680. Of course, there's over 8% of 2010 still to go.

On the other hand, I've bought a GH1 with 14-140, 20/1.7, 7-14, cable release, 4/3 adapter, M adapter;

A Zeiss Ikon with a 2/35, 1,5/50, 4/85, and cable release;

A Fuji GX680 with 80/5.6 and 210/5.6 lenses, wide bellows and extended bellows, extended rails;

Billingham Hadley Pro bag, filters, and a(nother) tripod.

… so as you can see, the odds are that I'll have that missing cable release pretty soon.
