What is your most tactile camera

Rather embarrassingly l have owned far too many cameras and have chopped and changed far to many times😱 however part of the fun is that l have come across a few great beasts that have been great to just sit with and hold. Another member on a different thread highlighted that sometimes a camera just by being there creates a need to fondle it, to hold it...l get this l really do, sometimes l use the excuse that l am just exercising the shutter speeds but deep down l know that l really just need to hold a certain camera, why because certain cameras just need to be held...and so what camera do you just hold, or what cameras have you used that were so special just holding them made you feel good.......just realised that maybe on rereading this thread l need to get out more or get therapy😀 for me to hold a Barnack is a joy, holding and playing with my IIIf gives me great pleasure😀

Any of the film cameras. There's something about that shutter advance lever that calms me. Probably the main reason I've had 3 Epson R-D1 cameras.

Any screw mount Leica (or Canon), any M mount Leica, any Rolleicord/flex, any Nikon F/2/3/4, any Canon F1. That's my list. 🙂

My Canonet GIII feels good in the hand. My AE-1p & I have a Canon AV-1that feels like a rangefinder in my hands. It's an aperture priority camera that's awesome.

Hexar AF, Fuji GF670,,Rolleiflex or yashicamat (same layout).

I prefer the Hexar AF to any 35mm camera.

Hmm, good question. I quite like the Retinas and the Voigtlander Vitessa L. Oh, and the Rollei 35, despite the winder on the wrong side.

Nikon F5. Giorgetto Giugiaro really pulled out all the stops when designing it ! Feels so sculpted to the hand and just an extension of Me. The F100 is also very tactile in a similar design.

Leica III. So substantial in the hand. that "vulcanite" feels so luxurious for some reason. moreso than slippery leather.

Lately, my 500c since I got a new body from KEH, my M3, my Fuji GS645 for it's compactness and precision feel. Love my original Mamiya 645 with the 45mm 2.8 and WL finder, and finally my Nikon F100--rarely used but a wonderful precision feel.

The Nikon F2 with a meterless prism is so ergonomically friendly that I can easily change film, change lenses, and change exposure in total darkness.

It used to be Leicas for me but I outgrew them. Tried again the last few weeks but the thrill is gone for sure and selling the remnants of the attempt in the classifieds.

Over time I have come to realise I need the bigger MF negative to create an image that's worth anything to anyone, and isn't that what photography is about first: the image?

So now my go-to easy-carry camera has proven to be a Rolleiflex 2.8C Xenotar.
Few rolls of film and a Gossen exposure meter in the coat pockets and I'm happy as a pig in mud.

Dear Board,

My Grandfather's old Nikon FTN and my recently acquired Nikon F4S are cameras that I really enjoy having in my hands and using. However, my true favorite is my Canon 1DMK2. It feels, and acts, like a magical brick to me! 😉

I always liked the simplicity of the needle metering of the Nikkormat, my first camera.

In my hands I am also always pleased with the shape and feel of the Exacta 500.

Honorable mention to the Canon FD EF and Canon FD T90.

In medium format I'd pick my Warner 66 and Rittreck 66.

I'm in with the Kodak Retina IIIc. Not necessarily because it was nice to hold while shooting, but because it was so lovely to hold while opeing it up, setting shutter speed, cocking the shutter, etc..

iPhone 6s. Feels great in the hand, excellent screen and one thumb can do it all.

That and the Leica 1f.
