I've been on-again off-again looking for a good film scanner for the past several months, usually at Nikon 9000's or older Imacons (flextight photo, etc.)

Imacons only pop up on ebay maybe once a month or so. Either they are overpriced for what they are and get no bids, or they are competitively priced and get a dozens of bids. I've never been a fan of the bay anyway, to be honest.

Is there an equivalent site to say, KEH, for scanners and other electronic equipment? Some place that deals in used film scanners en masse like a regular online vendor? Or a classifieds forum? I didn't see any on here and it's rare to see them on photo.net or FM.

I would not purchase one of these at all. They are terribly finicky, and Imacon's service is not the best. I had worked at a couple of agencies where these were in use. They broke down all the time. One agency had their Imacons worked on by Imacons service reps, and threw them in the basement after one of the reps asked for chewing gum and Crazy Glue to fix a broken scanner. I know quite a few photographers that like them though. Probably because they don't put them to the kind of use a photo agency would.

Keith,

What would you suggest then? I've heard similar horror stories about Nikon's service quality with their Coolscans. Especially since they've been discontinued.

Yours was the first story I've actually heard about Hasselblad's poor service.

The company I worked for had two of them, plus their service contract, Those technicians were horrible. I have had my Coolscan for 10 years. No problems, but I could be lucky.

What about the Minolta scanners? Any opinions?
