Philippe Dudouit was embedded with the PKK fighters in Northern Iraq and did his work using a large format camera.
Look at the 2008 World Press Photo interviews, look at his pictures and hear his story.

I know my answer. What's yours?
I like 12 x 8
What a great feeling they give!
The only advantage that 8x10 has is really that you make a contact print without the need of an enlarger. The lens for most 8x10's would produce laughable performance chart curves. I know that anyone who has lugged one around is still lamenting the fact. Not mention all the additional baggage, film , changing bags, cartridges and so on.
8x10 or any view camera is a real pain in any kind of wind or rain. Try climbing a hill made of dirt that is not stable. Oh yeah there is a joy. Now lets talk carrying around 2 or 3 extra lenses.
I think that the 8x10 is a great tool of cocktail parties and collecting dust.
