When I buy a Leica M9 in the next couple of months from KEH, since I live in Italy, I intend to bring it to Italy and have it in Italy almost all of the time I own it. If your camera is stolen in Italy, it's not the fault of Italy. It will be the fault of the thief.

It is not as much about Italy as it is about traveling with the M9.
I love traveling to Italy.

I was in 10/2012 in Verona and Venice with my M9 and nobody noticed the Leica.

I went there with my D700 with a lot of expensive glass and never considered Italy to be insecure. Actually, being a European, I consider Italy at LEAST as safe a place as the US. Actually I would worry less in Italy than in America
