X-E1: Native lens decision

For what it's worth... Here's my tuppence worth... A good photograph doesn't need to be sharp. Yes, I've said it, a good photograph doesn't need to be sharp. So what do I mean, well, there are many examples of good photographs that stir the heart. That are not sharp. It really depends on what the photographer mean to take or, in some cases, a lucky shot that is out of focus but works. If the out of focus photograph peaks your interest then it's a good photograph so it all depends on who is viewing it and whether it was mean to be unsharp or not. Think I'm right in saying we have all taken a photograph that wasn't perfect but it really meant a lot in some way. If it's taken for, say, forensic reasons then yes, it needs to be pin sharp but when it comes to general photography or even the professional photographer, out of focus or unsharp photographs can work really well.
I don't mean to step on anyone's toes are upset anyone but, as I said, it's my tuppence worth.

Funny.

There are eight instances of "sharp(ness)" in this entire thread.

Five of the eight are in the last two posts.

I bought the 18-55 because it was the best lens for my X-E1 and the role it plays in my lineup at this time.

P.S. My best shots are out of best focus at best.

i am loving the new 23!

don't tell anyone but it is some sharp...

Well, as you mentioned early in the thread -there really aren't any bad choices. I love my X100 too much to buy the 23 though (at least yet). As the X-E1 is new to me and I don't even have the native yet, I will reserve judgment on it for now.

sorry, not directed at you or meant to add anything too serious to the thread.
the zoom is a great lens…i'm just giddy about my new lens.

i still have the x100…it is a different beast than just the 23 alone.
i carry the x100 all the time except for when i carry my fuji kit…body and 3 lenses...

Completely understood! :)

Akiva,

What M adapter do you use?

I bought the typical inexpensive Rainbow via Amazon. These have always been good in my opinion in other mounts, but I am just not happy with this XF mount at all. Very poor (loose) fit.

The 18-55 has arrived and the early thought is that it was the right choice. I was looking for a complement to the X100, not a replacement and this is it.

Beautifully made and the first images are promising. It is a bit nose heavy, but that is a small compromise for the flexibility. Very pleased, so thanks to everyone for your thoughts and comments!
