Tan Kim Seng Fountain, Singapore
Seagull TLR / f/16 / Exposure time: 3 mins 30 seconds
Tan Kim Seng Fountain was not built by Mr Tan Kim Seng, the Malacca-born philanthropist, and one of the wealthiest merchants in Singapore at his time. Instead, this beautiful Victorian-style fountain was built by the Singapore Town Council in recognition of a generous donation which Mr Tan made for the installation of the first waterworks in Singapore. The donation of S$13,000 was a princely sum at the time, 1857.
The Tan Kim Seng Fountain was unveiled in 1882. Its original location was at Fullerton Square, but it was moved to Battery Road in 1905, before settling down right here, at Esplanade Park, in 1925, where it stays to this day.
I'm really enjoying the Rolleiflex experience and am often quite surprised with the results.
It is another different type of photography than the Leica M2 gives me which I got this time last year.
A different way of seeing and approaching things too.
One big difference is the amount of information in the 6x6 negative in tonality and detail.
Also you get a lot more attention from people but in a very positive way.
The other day I was walking in the park with my Rolleiflex with Rolleinar close up lens with green filter attached
and tripod over my shoulder which I would consider a rare enough sight when I passed a man with a Leica M Mot
around his neck! We greeted each other joyfully 😀
Best regards
Michael
