Have You seen the new 35/1.4 Nokton?

I checked out the lens and it didn't show M.C. nor S.C. on the lens or the box...very interesting.
Judging by the box shots I've seen, only the S.C. version is marked in a blue circle. I couldn't see a M.C. marking in the photos.

Surely Cosina wouldn't put out a lens that vignetted that badly.

The 40/1.4 does that too sometimes, but less dramatically, under certain conditions.
And it's not the hood. A flickr search will yield examples.

From here, I'm not seeing enough samples to make much of a judgement. And, I would also like to see how it performs in front of a film-loaded camera for a better idea of how it performs full-frame. Not in a major hurry, though.

Well, I browsed all of the photos on that Flickr page, had a close look in original size... and I am not really impressed. Do I expect too much?

Looks like the Canon 50 1.2 - which I like!
It also looks like the foliage in the background is being blown by the wind and creating motion blur, adversely affecting the out of focus rendering.

i don't really care about bokeh much and that's not the type of shooting i do anyway. a small lightweight and fast 35 will make a nice complement to my other 35mm lenses.
i would think that the 1.4 would be used more in a dimly lit bar or some nice evening shots.

and as far as knocking a lens that isn't out yet and with only a handful of examples from it isn't about to put a damper on my getting one.

:)

Truth is I'm not that concerned about how it works as a 50mm(ish) lens on a M8, I want to see how the thing performs as a proper 35mm with some film behind it.

I am tempted by this lens because its A) small b) cheap and c) fast.

I cant think of many other 35's that do that. I have the nokton and its beautiful but its hardly a walk around lens. Dismissing a lens based on a few shots of its bokeh at F1.4 on a digital crop frame seems silly. Worst comes to worst you can shoot it at F2 and you are then getting something similar in the size of a summicron, at a fraction off the price, brand new and with the ability to go faster if you choose

(that is if the people complaining can beat their fear of scary bokeh! :p)

@jamxo - very true. its a fair point to not judge a lens from a small sample but i suppose that's human nature! i am still interested in this lens...just that i was hoping the rendering might be more like the hexar af. as you say, it might be lovely by f2.

they already have a huge 35/1.7. I hope the new offering is smaller volume.

I am waiting on the 35/1.2, where Mr K will blow out the competition.

Gotta say, the bokeh it exhibits seems similar to the 40 nokton when shooting bright point lights, however... this lens definately has a more pronounced '3D effect' to it compared to the 40 notkon (as far as I can tell). Really awesome.
